Ok, folks, since I started running the X-Ville homepage, people keep
asking me stuff about it that I don't know, so I've decided to turn to you
lot for this one...

>I've always been a fan of the x-files, but I never really visited atxf
>very much. atxfc, yes, but not atxf. I have been relying on the several
>mailing lists to which I am a member of for my needed dose of XF

>become a part of the atxf posting at large?
>Dsc...@erols.com

Anybody know? I'd advise on posting here and collating it all before
posting to her/him because I'm having trouble reading my own
posts...AOHELL

Hmmm, I have a dim memory of it being a sort of Chamber of Commerce
thingy, so we put COC in the header, and then it just all Xploded with
the Great X-Ville Controversy of Cat Y. Calling Us Fluff, Who's Going To
Be Mayor?, and lots of people picking jobs, and all.
And a nice chicky called Portia used to be the keeper of the XV posts
but I think she may have snapped as I haven't seen her around lately.
You know, I'm actually quite useless here when it comes to X-Ville
history, I'm off to have a lie down.

I came onto the NG back when the COC was just getting started, was it
November? I don't recall. But somehow, that mutated into X-Ville. I was
one of the first (and probably the newest to the group) to join, and I
ended up on the very first XV page, created by Her Highness Portia, who
left after the whole Cat Y./XV haters fiasco. (Newer X-Villains, if you
think it's bad now, be glad you weren't here then. It got NASTY.) And
then, it just grew, and changed, and mutated into the happy little
community we have today. For any other details, you'll have to ask the
elder gods/goddesses.
Thus endeth my tale.

In a galaxy far, far away......oh, wait, wrong story........

*I* startd calling this little tea party "our
neighborhood", sometime around mid summer last year. The great and
wonderful Portia picked up on this, and proposed the Chamber of
Commerce. It being summer, and the fact that we were bored simple by
reruns, we jumped at this chance to play with our heads, and the
committee of a few, soon grew and expanded into a virtual town. I also
named X-Ville (X-Land was my first thought, but it sounded too much
like a constipation remedy). X-Ville grew like a mongrel puppy, and
was soon eating the couch and leaving huge puddles on the newsgroup
floor, thus begatting the "Is X-Ville fanfiction?" question, which
started tbe Great ATXF War of '96. After MUCH nastiness and caling of
names, an uneasy truce was declared, with citizens of X-Ville moving to
the back of the bus and agreeing to head their X-Ville posts with
X-Ville or XV or X-V (the debate over WHAT to head the posts caused
still ANOTHER controversy, convincing THIS poster that some people must
ALWAYS have SOMETHING to bitch about...they just DO). There has been
mostly peace lately, with a few pot-shots taken now and then, and a few
newer citizens not recognising that they should head their posts with
the "X-V" brand.....but all in all, we are mostly a peaceful community
once again.

And, for the record, Portia did NOT leave over the war or
the Cat fight or anything having to do with X-Ville itself, her OTHER
life duties are taking precedent at this time.

Ohhh. Sorry, I wouldn't want to spread "untruths", and I really didn't
know, there were so many rumors flying around at the time. As you can
tell, I am *not* one of the elders here.

So's mine. It's rather more eventful than the physical one. And noone
faults you for not playing volleyball.

It started sometime in early November 1996.

Along With Alan the Spa Owner, Paulverizer, Gizzie and a few others it was
originally called the Xfiles Chamber of Commerce (COC).

It started as a joke..and grew.

By december, there were 40 or so Citizens and exponentially grew to where
it is today.

I really think that the origional concept was that the job titles
reflected people's characters on the newsgroup, and it gave something to
picture who these people were who were on the ng.
