Hello everyone,

I just read a pop-up from AOL stating that my newsgroups will soon cease to
exist here. They listed info about accessing the groups from other sources, but
I didn't understand. Will this group continue? If so, how can I stay a part of
it?

Thanks,
Becky

Hi, Becky,

I just got the same message from AOL. Fortunately, you can still use
AOL to get here - you just have to take a different route. This is the
link I use to get in here:

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.tv.x-files.creative

Hope that helps! If you have trouble, let me know and I'll try to help
you.

Many ISP's are stopping their "coverage" of newsgroups. After I
switched from Earthlink to Qwest DSL, I found out what Qwest
didn't tell me beforehand: their newsgroup coverage is TERRIBLE.
I changed my Earthlink to the $9.95/month version just to be able
to access this group, but I also did some research.

I use Agent (comes in a free version) for newsgroup access. I can
subscribe to their newsgroup service for $2.95/month. When this
month's Earthlink service is close to ending, I'm signing up to
Agent's, to see how good it is. If it is, I'll drop Earthlink.

The reason I won't use GoogleGroups, as Kipler suggested, is that
I can save individual posts for as long as I want with Agent, as
reminders that I'm following those WIPs. I've had posts for 3-4
years, before I finally gave up stories.

If you're interested, Agent/Free Agent is here:
http://www.forteinc.com. It's only for Windows, by the way.

The newsgroups aren't going anywhere. AOL is just cutting off your access to
them.

Check out the other sources they listed, and the other suggestions in this
thread. I used Free Agent for access back when I had an ISP that didn't
provide access.

You could also switch to an ISP that provides access. I had access when I
was on Earthlink, and I have it through Comcast now.
