Don't belong to meeeeee,
I didn't create them,
I wish I had.
Cause I'd be rolling in dough
Cause they're so famous
And they're so coooooool.
If I have
Offended anyone
Who works on the show
Or movies, I'm really sorryyyyy,
And I hope that you won't suuuuuuuuuue.
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much. And now, on with the show.
FBI Headquarters
Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully's Office
8:36 AM
Scully looked up when someone knocked on the office door, wondering
who it was. She smiled briefly at the possibility that Mulder had
forgotten his keys, then called out, "Who's there?"
"It's me, Agent Scully. Holly. You got a package." Came the reply.
"Okay, hold on." She stood up and walked through the cramped office,
which was really lacking in space since she got her own desk, and opened
the door to find the young agent standing there.
"Thanks. It feels pretty heavy."
"Yeah. It's no problem. It's good for my back muscles."
"Or it's crippling you slowly but surely," Scully joked.
"Yeah, that too. I'll see you later, Agent Scully.
"Take care, Holly."
Holly waved back at her as she walked back towards the stairs, nearly
colliding with Mulder as he raced down. "Hi, Holly. Sorry."
Holly's response would forever remain a mystery to him, because by
the time she started speaking, he was already talking to Scully in the
office.
"What've you got, Scully?"
"I don't know, but if I have to hold it for much longer, my back is
going to break."
"Well, by all means, let's get it inside."
Scully slit the tape with a pair of scary-looking scissors from
Mulder's desk. She cleared away tissue paper and came across a letter
from her cousin Rita.
"Dear Dana," she read aloud, "Hi. It's me, your least favorite
cousin. I was on a dig in the Badlands and we found this. Well, we don't
know what it is, or how old, or what's in it, but I remembered you
worked with this kind of thing. It has no significance to us,
archaeologically, paleontologically, or paleobotanically, because it
doesn't look very old, that's for sure. I thought you might like it,
just the same. Love, Rita."
"Rita's actually my favorite cousin, if not my favorite relative of
all. She's about twenty. She's on a studying trip to the badlands to
join some archaeologists, paleontologists, and paleobotanists on a dig.
She's fascinated by that work, and was awarded this trip for a thesis
she wrote," Scully explained, "I'm a bit curious about what she would
not only send because they didn't want it and I would like it, but also
because it may be an X-File."
"Only one way to find out," Mulder commented.
"Yeah, yeah."
Scully cleared away more of the tissue paper, and then stopped dead.
She delicately lifted out a beautiful silver trunk that seemed to glow
with its own light. It was decorated with large gems of all colors. When
Scully reached out to stroke one, it lit up and glowed like it was a
living creature, as did all the gems. The office was bathed it white
light, but also in greens, blues, reds, purples, oranges, and yellows in
different shades and hues. She could see why Rita didn't need this. It
certainly didn't look like something from the ancient past. If anything,
it looked like it was from the distant future. Scully noticed the lock
on the front. It was a simple lock, the kind where you lift the clasp
over the bar. It was held in place by a single white jewel whose glow
was greater than that of all the gems put together.
Squinting against the light, Mulder tried to lift the clasp,
straining as hard as he could. Scully saw him panting slightly. That was
probably another reason Rita's team hadn't wanted it. Whatever was in it
was now worthless, because it was impossible to open.
Scully figured, though, what the hell, might as well give it a try.
She had barely touched the white gem when the clasp sprung open and a
brunette woman appeared next to Mulder.
It took Scully a moment to realize that this woman was actually a
computer-generated hologram of some kind. Her gun was aimed at the woman
when she started speaking.
