'24' movie in limbo after script gets 86'd

The prospects for a "24" feature film have gotten a little darker with
the rejection of a script for the movie.
A movie based on the FOX show, which ended in May after eight seasons,
was in the works at 20th Century Fox. But Howard Gordon, who executive
produced the series, now says that the studio has thrown out a script
written by "State of Play" and "Shattered Glass" scribe Billy Ray.
"As far as I know, it is in suspended animation," Gordon tells EW.
"There is talk about re-approaching it. I understand [director] Tony
Scott is meeting with Kiefer [Sutherland] to talk about ideas."
The project is still alive -- "People are still talking about it,"
Gordon says -- but the setback means that at the very least, fans will
have to wait a while longer to see Sutherland take up Jack Bauer
again.
Gordon says he's "disappointed" that 20th Century Fox decided to toss
out the script -- which would have flowed out of the events of the
show's final season -- but he tells EW he still thinks the movie will
get made.
"Anecdotally, I've heard from people who are really missing the show,"
he says, "and I do think there is more life in Jack Bauer."

Probably they thought of doing 2 moles at once, and hoping people
would FORGET that they already did that in Season 1!!

Think Michael Caine, or any other instance of an ancient spy on
one side encountering an ancient spy on the other, usually resulting
in the early death of a Nasty Person on one side or the other, while
the two ancient spies share a volume of vodka/scotch entirely
inappropriate to their aged bodies.

Jack Bauer already should be much older than Kiefer, anyway, based
upon the unseen years that have taken place over the course of the
series.

like the two moles some have suggested. Simply put, the cast is too
large, because it was designed for a season of television with many
plots unfolded throughout. This is a huge problem for the movie. Two
and a half hours is not enough time to set up betrayal, and 2.5 is too
much to let 24 unfold at the pace that it does.
You can have set piece action sequences and you can have character
development, but it's very hard to have them both. And at this stage
of the game, with studio financing reeling, I think 20th Century Fox
wants to play it cautious. It probably means they'll screw it up even
more should they proceed.
