We did a legitmate SAR with the UK and Royal Qumari Guard. This a plane
that went down in the Bermuda Triangle. Plain and simple.

LEO
And that really happens?

FITZWALLACE
What do you mean?

LEO
The Bermuda Triangle.

FITZWALLACE
Does it really happen?

LEO
I thought maybe it was like Toscanini landing in a cornfield.

I've googled for a while, but I can't find any explanation of this Toscanini
thing. Anyone know what this references?

Skip down to what Toscanini did starting about 1930.

I read it and I still don't get it. Where in that text is there a reference
to a corn field?

Oops. Sorry. I'd be guessing about the meaning. This came up when the
episode aired, and no one knew.

S2's "Shibboleth" (two years before) refers to the conductor Toscanini also,
but it makes sense: CJ is to conduct a group of children in the singing of a
Thanksgiving song. She doesn't know the song. Toby and others tease her
about that. At one point, Toby addresses her as "Toscanini."

Okay, I could be replying to a group inside joke... I know I posted some
cryptic gag replies to some group newbies in alt.tv.x-files in my day, and I
AM a new poster here...

But, in case this is a serious thread, couldn't he have said "Tuskegee
Airmen"?

If that's what you heard, I appreciate that. But the script that I found
online said:

I'll have to take your word on that. I was only chiming in with my personal
take on it. When I saw this episode, I had thought he said "Tuskeege",
because of the story of the Tuskeege Airmen landing in a cornfield.

If he said Toscanini, I have NO idea what THAT was about.
