Same here. I bought a separate tuner box.
I've got a Viewsonic LCD that has similar annoyances. I can *delete*
a memorized station, but not manually add one. On the other hand, not
being able to go to 40.3 if 40.3 has not been detected is normal.
Consider "40.3" is not a real channel number; its a virtual channel
number that has to be mapped (or equated) to the "real" channel used
by digital 40. For my market, digital 50 (50.1) is on 51. 32.1 is
really 31. 38.1/2/3/4 are on channel 47 (if I remember correctly).
The PSIP data (carried with the programming) tells the TV which
"virtual" channel number to use for a particular real channel.
Without that information, your TV has no idea where "40.3" is
located. Now, my Panasonic Plasma TV has the nice feature where I can
enter either the virtual or the real channel to reach my desired
destination. If my channel scan missed 26.1 and 26.2 because it was
temporarily off the air when I scanned, but I know from outside
knowledge that they use 27, then I can key in 27 and find 26.1. The
Panasonic auto-adds new stations, so if 27 has active programming,
26.1 and 26.2 get added. Unfortunately, the Viewsonic doesn't do
this.
