Subject: Time Warner does it again
It seems every few months they add a buck  here and there and result
is an increase. and each year i have to threaten them that i would
leave if they don't stop nit picking, and then you get a so called
break. I have the basic, standard and DVT package for 128 per month. I
live in nyc. I told them that i no longer want the DTV package, just
basic and standard. She told me that i have to send the box back.
HUH!! don't i need that box for those two? I was paying 49 for the
internet. She said that she would take off $9 and pay 41.95. I said OK
and today, just to check out my speed, it is now 1mb max, instead of
the near 20mb i was getting...she did NOT tell me that the speed would
change accordingly.WOW take $9 off and lose 19mb..I would like to get
an OTA and put it on my roof, but cannot find anyone that installs. My
local channels, especially CBS i can get for free and in HD. BTW, do
they still sell those hd boxes...? Its been a long time since I had to
look for one and never see them advertised. I guess its time to google.

Sounds like a vindictive rep. Call CS and ask for a supervisor.

Isn't that about the going rate these days? I have been on TW for 5
years or so at around $97 just for internet and cable..at the
beginning, like everything today, everyone keeps upping the cost
yearly. Just what are you getting and paying ?

Why are you replying to Jesus Christ? What does Jesus have to do with this?

1971, but you said "...spent every month on a mortgage back in the 70s."
I spent that every month in the 80s and 90s, too.

A little under $28K. Interest rates were higher then. :(

It sounds like you're talking about the government-subsidized digital
converters.  Although they could tune HD channels their outputs were
not HD.  There were a few standalone receivers with HD outputs but
that market was limited to people who bought HD displays without
digital tuners built in.  Samsung was the last brand I heard of and
that was quite a while ago.

Does your display have a digital tuner?  If so you don't need a box,
just a suitable antenna.  What kind and where to put it depend on your
location and obstructions.  TVFool and AntennaWeb can help.

There are quite a few computer-based digital tuners: plug-in cards or
boxes that connect via USB or Ethernet.  Combine that with some
software and you have a DVR.

They are being differentiated from the other digital converter boxes (such
as the Samsung I saw years ago in a circuit city store).

The Samsung wasn't eligible to be subsidized by the government coupons--if I
recall correctly it also had component video output--therefore, those that
were on the authorized list for coupon use are those ATSC to NTSC
converters, thus government subsidized converter boxes. You also see CECB
which is, of course, coupon eligible converter boxes.
