How do those commstones work? How do they swap people's minds over such
great distances? Could they put more than one visitor mind in the same
host? At least one person (Scott) has reported a memory leak from the
guy (Telford) he swapped bodies with. Could the swappees also
experience an emotion leak, such as Young's love for Emily infecting
Telford, or Young and Telford being infected by each other's negative
qualities.
Is Senator Armstrong's body still intact? What cover story did the U.S.
government put out to explain his disappearance?

Before we get to any of that, should we not be told how a stargate exactly
works? How is that wormhole created? How does the dial up system work? Lets
work our way through the technology in the original movie, then SG1, then
Atlantis, then I think worrying about SGU might make some sense.
Or we could just accept that most SF tech has no explanation in current
reality and realise its only there to hang stories on that could not happen
with current tech.

It doesn't. The minds stay in one place and the rest of the universe is
repositioned around them. This is done by folding space-time around a
quantum axis, positioned halfway between the two minds. Once the travelers
are standing in the exact same space, a hyperspace bubble opens that
dislodges the minds. Then space-time crosses itself, transposing the bodies
until they overlap with the disembodied minds. Removing the stone bursts
the hyperspace bubble, causing space-time to snap back to its original
position, the bodies catching their original minds on the trip back.

I assume by the American spelling you mean something like bourbon.
Scotch IS whisky, although I'll allow that the Irish put together a
wonderful drink themselves.
