I predict that in the next few episodes, we will see Emily holding the
hand of an injured Telford at the local hospital.

How are your wild guesses spoilers? Do you know what a spoiler is?

No, he doesn't know what a spoiler is. He puts spoiler space on his
reviews of episodes that have been shown in outer mongolia years ago,
and spoiler spaces on his rabid rambling speculations.

Yeah. I guess it was more rhetorical than anything...

I figure that better spoiler safe than spoiler sorry.

What do you think of the actual prediction, as opposed to whether or not
I should have used spoiler space?

Emily seems attracted to Telford, so it seems logical that she would visit him
in the hospital after he got injured at the end of "Life", and probably bring
him roses.

Then he's no where near the badass he thinks he is if he's in the hospital
from a one-on-one fight with another officer. So your hospital scenario is
very unlikely.

He looked badly enough injured to me to need hospital treatment, and Young
looked angry enough to me to inflict hospital treatment requiring injuries on
Telford. Also, I suspect that Telford might have been caught by surprise the
2nd time Young attacked him. Telford would not have expected to be attacked by
some random Young inhabited officer. I gather that Young wasn't scheduled to
stone to Earth at that time, so Telford would have had no reason to expect Young
to attack him at that time and place.

Also #2: I figured that Young might have wanted to send Telford to the hospital
so that Telford would not be able to visit Emily, giving Young an opportunity to
talk to Emily alone about Telford's allegations of continued infidelity.

How badass does Telford think he is anyway?

I think anything that happened in the past week could be considered a
spoiler. The "Last time on" bit in the next episode would spoil it for
anyone who hadn't watched it anyway. If you can't be bothered to watch it
every week, then you're probably not that big a fan. As for things that
happen in an upcoming episode, it's a spoiler only if it's actually going to
happen. If you're simply speculating, guessing, predicting, or suggesting,
then there is not enough certainty to warrant spoiler warnings/space. It
has to be "In the can," in filmmaking terms, or close to it.

In other words, it has to spoil the surprise to be a spoiler. That's why
it's called a spoiler. Even if you guess and you turn out to be right later
on, it's still not a spoiler because you can still be surprised to discover
you were right.

I dont' mind that he provides spoiler space to shows that came on this
year, but his "thoughts"... I guess you could say those were spoiled,
couldn't you?

Actually, we had an issue where we couldn't watch for two weeks, but
the show was recorded. I appreciated the spoiler space in those
instances (granted, I try to avoid threads that seem to be discussing
shows I haven't seen yet).

I might be. Are you saying this WILL happen? What's your source?

A thought has occurred to me. Going by your logic, anything anyone says
about anything anytime, regardless of when whatever they were talking about
happened, will happen, or has the slightest possibility of happening, is
bound to totally ruin someone's day because they hadn't seen the show up to
that point, or possibly even at all, and still cares about being surprised.
Therefore, EVERY SINGLE POST needs spoiler space, just in case some complete
newb doesn't expect someone to talk about StarGate SGU on a StarGate SGU
forum. This strikes me as highly unlikely, as by that point you might as
well just not be reading this forum at all.

Then it's NOT a spoiler, is it? Not only is spoiler space unnecessary for
it, it might be considered fraudulent as it suggests it will happen.

If it's not from an official source, then it's mere speculation and is not a
spoiler. You might expect it to happen, but it doesn't mean it will.

I don't think that's relevant to what I was saying. I appreciate you trying
to change the subject back to what the thread started as. However, what I
want right now is to make sure you understand what is a spoiler and what
isn't. This being "spoiler safe" is really unnecessary, as I am sure
spoilers mainly occur in discussions of actual episodes and can be easily
avoided. Even when there are spoilers, a lot of people find spoiler space
annoying and think a one-line and/or subject line warning is just as
effective. Well, that's what people would tell me when I used it, at least.

I'm extrapolating from what I have seen in SGU episodes. I've seen Telford
being very friendly with Emily and I've seen him get badly beaten. I
therefore extrapolate that we might see Emily visiting her good friend Telford
at the SGC hospital, and might later see them boinking each other like
bunnies. I therefore thought that spoiler space might be needed, and didn't
want to get blasted for NOT including spoiler space!

But it's not a certainty. It's only a possibility. If it's only possible,
it's not ruining the surprise.

Let's take, for example, that you received a gift on Christmas. It has the
size, shape, and dimension of a DVD case. Being a fan of Stargate, you
rightly assume it's a Stargate DVD. Do you leave the package unopened,
secure in the knowledge that is's a Stargate DVD? Or do you open it,
instead being baffled by the appearance of DragonBall Z: Tenkaichi Budokai 2
for the Nintendo Wii? It doesn't matter how accurate your guess is. It's
not a spoiler until the writer's can no longer be vague on the subject.

"Well, we can't guarantee that someone isn't going to not die..." "OMG
SPOILER!"
