One of the local TV stations is playing three eps of ST:NG in a row each
Thursday evening. Last night's middle Ep was "Starship Mine" in which
the Enterprise has to undergo a Barium (or whatever) sweep, and this
sweep is fatal to living matter so the "E" is evacuated whilst the sweep
takes place.

The Sweep is occurring from left to right (i.e. Port to Starboard or
vice-versa) and the crooks left on-board are planning too leave via
Ten-Forward as it will be the last area to be swept.

I've always expected Ten-Forward to be, well, Forward rather than to one
side.

Anybody know it's "real" location??

According to my understanding,it is on the 10th level down in the saucer
section, forward in the lead area furthest from the engines. So,if a
"baryon sweep" occurred,it would be the last to be hit IF you started
the sweep at the tip of the engine nacelles and kept going towards the
lead portion of the ship.
The fact that they show window "areas" in several episodes as the warp
travel "distortion" effect goes by leads me to believe this too.

In article <3763-503...@storefull-3172.bay.webtv.net>,
Your understanding would be correct ...

Ten-Forward Lounge
------------------
A large recreation room located on Deck 10 of the
Starship Enterprise-D, on the front rim of the
Saucer Module. ...and numerous tables from which
one could enjoy the spectacular vista offered by
the windows looking out into space.

- The Star Trek Encyclopedia

It's exact location tends to vary slightly depending on which of the many
deck plans (official and unofficial) you want to believe.

Some behind-the-scenes facts also from The Star Trek Encyclopedia ...

Ten-Forward was built after the first season of
Star Trek: The Next Generation. It was first seen
in "The CHild", the first episode of the second
season. The set has been re-dressed to serve as a
theatre and a concert hall. In Star Trek VI: The
Undiscovered Country, it even served as the
office of the Federation Council president,
complete with a view of Paris out the windows. It
was later revamped to serve as the mess hall
aboard the Starship Voyager. Also on Voyager,
Ten-Forward's windows were recycled to serve as
the windows in Janeway's Ready Room and in the
briefing room.

Did you read my original post in this thread? Or are you suggesting that
they only needed to sweep one stern-to-bow sliver of the ship??

The sweep started cleaning, stern-to-bow, from the Left of the ship, and
was making it's way to the right of the ship, yet Ten-Forward was going
to be the last area swept.

To me, the sweep single was parallel to the long axis of the "E",
started penetration on the extreme left of the hull and move to the right.

But what would I know, I just saw the Ep??
