Man, it doesn't matter how many times I've seen it, I still cry and feel
tired when it's over. What a great episode for any genre or show.

they only thing I hate is, if they would ever actually happen in real life,
Picard could not possibly continue with his duty. he would be extremely fucked
up in the head. you can't live your former life after having a 40 year gap that
no one else recognizes but you.

I always expected that Picard would have to work himself "back" into his duty
schedule after the incident.

OTOH, while his memories of the other life were as real as if he'd actually
lived them, once he was "back" why wouldn't his memories of his real life be as
fresh?

I like the fact that they did portray in several episodes how deeply it
impacted him. Even just the ever present flute is an indicator.

Well, if we make our own meaning and our own destiny in this world, then
logically we should be making our own hope, too.

All I ever needed to know I learned reading "Watchmen" by Alan Moore.

Karen, I'm just saying that psychologicly, a person would be very confused in
the head after that.
And you're right, there is no hope in the world. As I typed the line, "In real
life" I actually thought that no one would fire pack with the pathetic line
"but this isn't real life." I know!! I'm just doing what this group was meant
for! discussion! I'm the one who posted that the Inner Light was on tonight!
and I'm not picking it apart. just D-I-S-C-U-S-S-I-N-G the episode.

I know. Then again, what about the notion that these are people who are
chosen partially on their extraordinary abilities to adapt to situations and
have outstanding psych profiles. Not to mention, he's not the most "rounded"
person in the world where relationships are concerned anyway. We don't see
the counseling sessions, doesn't mean he didn't have some rigorous sessions
with Troi (down boys). I'm just saying he wouldn't necessarily flip out over
it, but it certainly deeply affected him or he wouldn't have continued to
cherish the flute, play and improve it. How do we really know what went on
pyschologically after the experience. I will tell you, I always imagined
that at the end of Picard's life, besides his oustanding Starfleet career,
he was credited with a set of writings on the Kataan that were admired by
scholars around the quadrant ;)

I'm down for that. I do wonder if the flute was recovered after the crash of
the D.

Gasp! Sad thought if it was not! Then again, if he managed to recover a
photo album and Spot lived, I'm sure the flute survived.

They should- it's the last time Trek won the Hugo for Best Dramatic
