Someone on the S-N-L.com forum put this up, thought you'd all like to see
it. It's poor quality, but still... Nice little prelude to the special
next month :-)

Yeah. They're interviewing the Doumanian folks, so it'll be cool :-)

Oh, if you click that link now, you see a better quality version of it.

That is truly chilling to watch, especially in lieu of the tragic news of
his passing today.

I have seen that episode, but never have seen the actual utterance of the
word.

It is just like it was described in the book, "Saturday Night: A Backstage
History of Saturday Night Live".

I have studied this like the Zapruder films, and after several careful
viewings this morning, I can only come to two conclusions.

1.) Rocket was clearly drunk.
2.) Rocket and company seemed as if they were unaware that they were on
live.

It just blows me away that he really, deliberately, uttered "fuck" on live
television.

He wasn't a stupid man, and he knew better. There has to be a reason why he
said that.

Overall, Rocket was a decent SNL talent. His Weekend Updates and Rocket
Reports were consistantly the only funny things about that season. But, it
was Eddie Murphy who viewers connected with the most in mid season, which
upset the balance of a budding new comedy troupe already insecure after
following the legendary Not Ready For Prime Time Players. I truly believe
that entire cast was a victim of wrong place, wrong time circumstances. The
writing and lack of experience of their producer led to season six's demise,
not Rocket's blunder.

Nah, it was probably just a mistake. He was just told to improvise, and
slipped, that's all. That book wasn't exactly right anyway... his Weekend
Updates never got 'chilling silences'.

But as I said on the S-N-L.com forum, I get the feeling we're being played
by someone.

Thank you for pointing that out! I've been wanting to see that since I
first heard about it in the Hill/Weinngard book! I taped the hourlong
version off CC about 15 years ago, but they completely edited out the
dialogue between Tilton and Rocket, went right to the scrolling credits
instead.

Just heard about his death. Bizzarre.

I had always read about it happening differently - I thought he was
offstage and muttered, 'Who the f*ck killed me'....

I don't think I've ever seen that clip in my life, until now...

Very different after years of the story being changed...

He doesn't seem to censor himself or backtrack.... he just says it and sits
there...

Definitely seemed drunk, or just plain full of himself. The
Hill/Weingard book claimed he "stumbled" on the f-word, but according
to that link, the only thing he did was leave out the "the" completely.

Did you know Charles Rocket? I always thought he was unfairly maligned.
He definitely was,sad to saywas, better than Amy P.
