I wouldn't want to be trapped in the cabin with Advance Scout. I'd rather
be trapped with Hitler's mother.

Hitler's mother may have time travled to the future and had her baby in New
Jersey in a snowed in cabin, and she named the baby Advance Scout. Then
that mother and baby went back to the past and the child became Hitler.
When the bunker was being attacked, Hitler and Eva Braun went into the other
room and jumped into the time machine and went forward to new Jersey. There
they killed a couple in a home and sent them back to the bunker making it
look like they committed suicide. Now they reside in New Jersey living a
reaonably normal life except for an occasional demented time travel musing:
"What if you went back in time and killed Hitler?" Like we're going to bite
on that one Schicklgruber!

It's a matter of perspective. My waste of time was about something real --
while yours was about something unreal, something that cannot happen. I'd
say to ponder the in's-and-out's of some impossibility is a greater waste.
But then I have to consider that you play "cards" which is about as exciting
as watching paint dry. ;-)

To us Krypton is as real as Hitler. Hitler was not a part of our lives
unless you were born in 1945. Sure it's possible your folks were in the
camps and my Dad's unit liberated Dachau but that was in their reality. I
was born in 1948 and I have no memories of WWII. Anything that I could
conjure up would be as false as a vision of Krypton. The victors of a war
write the history. I doubt there is any 'real' version of it. So whatever
we 'believe' becomes the truth. Newsfilm shows us WWII -- movies show us
Superman. Eyewitnesses tell us of WWII. Eyewitnesses tell us of voyages on
UFO's. All of it requires belief unless it was directly a part of our
experience.

I believe our history indicates that Himmler was the person that urged
Hitler to conduct the Holocaust. Himmler had the nutty ideas of racial
purity and sent people around the world to find aryan connections to all
races. They were especially interested in Tibet. He wanted to prove that
all the races descended or were bastardizations of the ayran race. Hitler
said that it was foolish to point out that the Romans were descended from
the Germans because the Romans were building aquaducts when the Germans were
living in mud huts. Himmler also connected Hitler and the Teutonic Knights.

From the Wiki on Himmler: In Himmler's 20's -- "During this time he was
again obsessed with the idea of becoming a soldier. He wrote that if Germany
did not soon go to war, he would go to another country to seek battle."

So if Hitler was removed an alternate reality may have had Himmler become
the leader and he was not incompetent like Hitler. Hitler wanted the Me262
to be a bomber. Hitler didn't like the assault rifle that became the
pattern for the Russian AK47 and so their infantry had bolt action rifles.
Hitler's armies were largely horse drawn. Tv likes to show us mechanized
armor but my father said they used horses to pull supply carts and wagons.
Basically Hitler had a WWI mind. Himmler was more dangerous. Killing baby
Hitler may have given them a victory.

discussion and now that I have given you another ABSTRACT idea, we see the
"limits" of your abstract reasoning. To understand what I'm saying you have
to remove yourself and experince from the reasoning.

I met people 30 years ago that HAD NEVER HEARD OF HITLER! And there are
many more of them today. To them the history and reality of Hitler is just a
story, and to some, a myth. REALLY. So my saying that is not without
foundation or example -- it is just a part of our reality.

So, what you're saying is that Godwin's Law has to be reformulated?

Godwin's law doesn't really apply to the thread since Ms. Scout's original
post was about time travel and killing Hitler. Godwin's Law as I understand
it, says that ANY discussion will devolve into a Nazi/Hitler comparison.
This (thread) doesn't apply.

However as far as numbers of people not hearing of Hitler and assuming that
those numbers will increase, then I'd say "yes" to a reformulation. The
conversations of those that haven't heard of him can't devolve as Godwin
describes. So ipso facto Godwin's isn't really a law.

BC must admire former presidential candidate Michael Dukakis, who ran
against the elder George Bush. Dukakis was opposed to the death
penalty, and that was an issue in one of their debates. The moderator
asked Dukakis, in the abstract, would he still oppose the death
penalty for a criminal who had raped and murdered his own wife and
daughter.

True to BC's preferred "masculine" form, Dukakis showed no emotion.
Keeping it an abstraction, he calmly explained that no, he would not
support the death penalty even for the rapist/murderer of his own wife
and daughter. BC, for one, probably praised the "manly" Dukakis for
his logical and reasoned consideration of the hypothetical.

Almost everyone else, however, was turned off by Dukakis' cold and
bloodless response. They wondered, does he have any normal human
passion, any love for his family? Far from being "masculine" his
utter detachment just seemed weak, the reaction of someone who just
lacked the capacity for strong feelings about anything. But the
purely logical "real men," like Mr. Spock and BC, probably thought
Dukakis was right on. Millions of voters thought otherwise.

Now why do you have to insult my good friend... Mr. Spock like that.

I know for a fact that Spock wouldn't have voted for Dukakis. First of
all Spock voted for T'Pau in the general election (vote sent via
subspace radio)... secondly on Vulcan the name Dukakis means "two
gangrened trouser snouts", which is a very bad omen... especially on Vulcan.

*BC liked elder Bush -- you always have me pegged wrong.

*I have no idea what the hell you are talking about -- insane-o.

*I repeat -- old man Bush was ok in my book because he said the crazies of
the repubs supported Reaganomics -- a policy he called "voodoo economics".
I agreed with him. I was also with him on the Gulf War. Your problem is in
thinking that I'm a tree-hugging liberal -- I'm not. I support the right to
have a gun, I don't like abortion, and I also realize that change sometimes
means that we have to kill the snail-darter.

*You're just pissed that I label your form of politics as "Nazi" which it

remember his name the other day let alone his running mate -- that I still
don't remember -- woman I think.

You managed to miss my point completely, perhaps on purpose. This has
nothing to do with liberal/conservative, pro or anti death penalty. I
was talking purely about *how* Dukakis addressed the question,
separating himself and his emotions from the abstract issue of capital
punishment.

And her name was Geraldine Ferraro, will you forget Sarah Palin too?
Seems that your memory is "going rogue" at an accelerating pace.

And that is what I say cannot be applied to women in general. You, me,
and everyone see different types of personalities in the world. I can
assure you, nobody I know is afraid to say "I was wrong" or "I don't
think you're right" instead of "I don't want to discuss it anymore"
because they don't have a response. Sometimes, especially with you and
a few others on the NGs, we end up going round and round, which is a
waste of everyone's time, so I'll say, "Let's agree to disagree" or
something like that. It doesn't even mean you're wrong - it just means
*I* believe you're wrong, and you just as stubbornly believe you're right.

You and Hawk have issues with each other, but I have no issues with
either of you, *except* when you generalize women as needing an
emotional crutch for every reaction. That's just unfair.

Wickeddoll

BC, your snark is the main thing I like about you, but you really do
generalize a lot of negative things when it comes to women. Are we
faultless? Hell no, but to keep saying an action or reaction you think
is feminine, therefore emotional is really insulting. Makes us sound
like the female characters of 1940s movies. Those silly bitches were
helpless, clueless, and were often slapped - which was considered
appropriate at the time.

We really aren't that helpless; so while we'll certainly cry much more
easily than a man, it doesn't mean we can't control our emotions to make
smart decisions and function well in business or other serious
situations, just as men do.

*sigh*

My reaction there is emotional, in that it annoys the hell outta me -
but my complaint is that you said Scout's reaction was feminine. That's
saying men don't have the same emotions we have, and react the way we
do. They most certainly do indeed, but often mask said emotions with
aggression.

Not sure Dukakis has a lot of bearing on any discussion here --maybe that is
the reformulation of Godwin's Law -- that all internet threads devolve into
a discussion about Dukakis.

I told you I couldn't remember his name a while back -- so how can I
remember what he said or did? I'm serious -- I didn't think he was
memorable when he ran. You must be assuming I cared about that -- I don't.
Spock was written to be "logical" but also "unemotional and without
compassion" which you have forgotten. I try to be logical and who wants to
be illogical? But I have emotion and compassion too -- so your comparison
falls flat mostly because you have no idea of what you are talking about
since you confuse logic with a lack of compassion.

Who wouldn't want to forget the stupid shit that's written here? Even basic

I also was quite surprised at his response to you, who did not deserve
