You do realize there's a conspiracy to set up groups like The Stonecutters
to ensure there is someone to blame for things. They are also good for
topics for novels, and to feed every conspiracy nut's theories.

The groups themselves are innocuous, but the world would not be the same
without them to hang the blame on.

Well. the Stonecutters actually say in their theme song that they hold
back the electric car, not to mention that Harry Shearer is or was a
member of the Bohemian Club, so I kinda figured the song--and the
whole ep--was a joke on "secret" societies (Freemasons specifically)
running the world.

I'm very surprised that whoever replied above didn't mention that
explicit Freemason joke, since he/she didn't seem to "realize" that
the Stonecutters are a parody of both secret societies and people's
fear of secret societies. (And Abe is a Freemason as well as a
Stonecutter, which of course means he's even scarier. Weird, strange,
sick, twisted, eerie, godless, evil scarier.)

Nowadays probably more of a jape at The Club of Rome, The Trilateral
Commission, The Bilderbergs, etc.; but I agree, making fun of secret
societies.
