Now, my comments on "Mom And Pop Art":

DYN

...it's the first regular episode to be written by Al "I Murdered Mike
Reiss" Jean?
...it's Jean's first Simpsons script (Solo and/or with other people) in
almost three years (Since "Lisa's Sax" was one of the four 3G episodes made
after Season 7)?
...a drawing of Akbar & Jeff from "Life In Hell" in the museum?
...Homer claimed to painted the Ringo Starr painting that Marge actually
made back in 7F18?
...his grill and birdhouse recalled that he's still a bad builder?
... the epsiode title referred to the hardware store that brought much of
the items that his artworks was made from?
...the Andy Warhol Campbell's Split Pea With Ham Soup Can painting is
worthless, since Homer put his arm through that painting?
...Homer birdhouse is worth $2 (For just the bird alone)?
...Homer thrown out their own doormat (And Flanders', as well)?

Isabella Rossellini is may be best know for those highly-sucessful
miniseries produced under the Hallmark Entertament banner, such "The
Odyssey" (In which TV Guide promoted it with one article published before
the miniseries' premiere, on May, 1997, on "The Odyssey Of Homer
[Simpson]"), and "Merlin", but, before she became a star, she was a daughter
of one of the most-hated marriages in Hollywood history, between Ingrid
Bergman & Roberto Rossellini. In fact, according of the IMDB, she's twins,
since her twin sister is Isotta Rossellini! Her stepsister is film critic
Pia Lindstrom.

I THINK I'VE HEAR HIS NAME BEFORE

Yes, Al Jean is nicknamed "I Murdered Mike Reiss" (As referred to in
"Treehouse Of Horror IX" [AABF01]), and, this is his regular episode as a
writer, having previously written as a solo writer, "Lisa's Sax" (3G02),
which is one four 3G episodes produced after Season 7, as an filler episode,
which didn't aired until Season 9.
But, many OFF fans still remebered the classic episodes that Jean & Reiss
wrote, such as "The Way We Was" (The first flashback episode [7F12]), "Stark
Raving Dad" (The infamous Michael Jackson episode [7F24]), "Lisa's Pony"
(The first episode that described the bonding of Homer & Lisa [8F06]),
Treehouses Of Horror II ([8F02]), and III (The "Clown Without Pity" segment
[9F04]) and "Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious" (The famous
Shary Bobbins episode, which marked their last OFF episode as writers
[3G03]), as well as some I don't get it, such as "There's No Disgrace Like
Home" (7G04), and "Moaning Lisa" (7G06). They also wrote the storyline for
"'Round Springfield" (2F32).
But, don't count Mike Reiss get murdered. In fact, they're still around,
served currently as Consulting Producers for Eddie Murphy's animated series,
"The PJs", which aired on Fox, after MG's "Futurama" (DUH!).

Pretty easily. Most the jokes in that show are either dumb or stolen many
times over. (Like the cart and horse catching on fire after they crash. That
was funny 5 movies and 2 TV shows earlier)

Same with having the teenage daughter, whatever her name is, having the
Wonder Years voices in her head, sounds like something they stole from
the Simpsons when Bart got a job. The episode was kind of funny, but
definetly wasn't as good as tonight's Simpsons or any Futurama episode
so far.

Family Guy is hilarious. You should have seen the post-Super Bowl Sneak
Preview. Even better than this one. I thought it was much funnier than the
Simpsons tonight.

Shabs.

Didn;'t they steal the "voice in the head like the WOnder Years" thing
from..the Wonder Years? Just because the Simpsons used it and parodied it
doesn;t mean that all other shows that do so are stealing from the
Simpsons.

I'm looking for someone who can send me a videotape of last night's
(4/11/99) episode "Mom and Pop Art." It's the first one I've missed in
about 5 years.

As far as Simpsons video I could offer in trade, I have:

Bart Simpson on a show w/ Larry King
"Do the Bartman" and "Deep Deep Trouble" videos
Nancy Cartwright (voice of Bart S.) on Tom Snyder
The Simpsons on Oprah
10/09/96 Matt Groening on Space Ghost Coast to Coast
5/22/98 Hank Azaria on Letterman

I also have an extra copy of that "Making Faces" book with all the
Simpsons masks that I could part with. I also have tons of live music
video...most of it is indie-rock type stuff though I do have some stuff
by more mainstream groups like U2 and REM etc. Let me know if you can
help me out.

thanks,

Oh come on now, it's a standard gag now for anything that crashes to go up in
ball of fire like in all the movies and cop shows of the 70's. I knew the cart
was going to explode, but I didn't see the horse coming.

Just because "The Simpsons" ripped off (or paid homage to) "The Wonder Years"
doesn't necessarily mean "Family Guy" ripped off "The Simpsons," maybe they
just ripped off (or paid homage to) "The Wonder Years" directly.

Considering how long "The Simpsons" has been on, and all the things it's either
referenced or parodied, doesn't mean that because another show does it doesn't
mean their ripping off "The Simpons." "Star Trek" was parodied well before
"The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" came along, that doesn't mean they were ripping
off a 70's "Saturday Night Live" sketch.

I hope nobody takes this the wrong way, but this whole issue just struck a
nerve with me. If you think about it, there's very little new under the sun.
I'll get off my soapbox now.

um, I wonder if that was the actual painting. When Homer is drooling over it the
painting seems rather large, I'd estimate 30" by 45". The painting that Homer's
fist went through seemed to be about 16"by 24". It could be a print from the
museum shop.

You don't "steal" if it's satire. However, if you do the same satire joke,
well you can't call it original especially if it's not as funny. I would
accept it being done on "Dilbert" since Dan Stern does the voice.

Yes, since he said out loud, "So long, The Simpsons. D'oh!"

Aren't DYNs supposed to be the non-obvious things? Things that the characters
don't bring up in their dialogue, or in the plot?

Only it's funnier with a teenage girl having a man's voice in her head. And I
doubt they stole it from The Simpsons, more likely they stole it from Wonder
Years!

And Wonder Years stole it from either the Waltons, A Christmas Story, or
both. I don't know who the Waltons stole it from.

You'd think so wouldn't you. Unfortunatly, people usually find it a chore to
notice what show they're watching in the first place. Once they realize it's
The Simpsons, occasionally they pick up a few of the major elements of the
plot and call them DYNs.

I say we all do as I did and rename them "You Probably Noticeds."
