Anyone know a website or know how the Simpsons have done in the ratings
since they came on? Just curious to know what they averaged (million
viewers) in each season and what number they ranked each season as far
as top watched shows. Thanks

I can't speak for their entire history, but the June 10 issue of
Entertainment Weekly has a listing of ratings for the 2004-2005 season, and
-- hey! -- I have a copy right here!

"The Simpsons" was watched by 9.6 million people, good enough for 50th place
overall (out of 156). Among the 18-to-49 year olds, the most coveted
market, the show was 29th. This is down 10% from the previous year.

"The Simpsons" shares 50th place with "The Simple Life 3" and "Listen Up."
To put the "The Simpsons" ranking in context, here's the numbers for other
Fox shows:

Rank Viewers Title 18-49 Rank % change
1 27.4 American Idol (Tue) 1 +7
3 26.0 American Idol (Wed) 2 +7
29 11.9 24 22 +13
49 9.8 Stacked 27 new
50 9.6 The Simpsons 29 -10
63 8.5 American Dad 37 new
76 7.6 Family Guy 48 new[*]
101 5.9 Arrested Development 75 -5
103 5.6 Malcom in the Middle 86 -33
114 4.8 King of the Hill 101 -26
132 3.6 Johnny Zero 142 new

[*] Well, sort of, anyway.

"Johhny Zero" -- which was on for what, two episodes? -- was Fox's
lowest-ranked show.

Comments:
1) Geez, "The Simpsons" gets edged out by "Stacked"? Maybe it's time to
wrap up the show and start on the movie, after all.

2) The 7-8 pm "death slot" that worked so well for "Futurama" seems to be
working its magic on "KotH" and "MitM," too, although those shows were in
decline for some time before they moved.

3) For all the ballyhoo surrounding the second coming of "Family Guy," the
relatively unheralded newcomer "American Dad" beat it in both the regular
and the 18-49 ratings. I wouldn't be surprised if these shows (or at least
"Family Guy") improved their ratings, since these numbers reflect a late
start in the season.
