LOS ANGELES – Ladies' man Ricardo Bomba is bringing his charms to "The
Simpsons," and it's all the doing of a hospital operations manager
with a vivid imagination.

Peggy Black, 52, of Orange, Conn., won a contest to create a character
for Fox's long-running animated series, with her entry triumphing
among the more than 25,000 received, the network said Thursday.

"Rrrri-carrr-do Bomba," Black said, extravagantly rolling the "R's" in
Spanish-language fashion. "He's someone that all the women love and
all the men want to be."

I wonder how often this character is going to appear?
(Insert "about as often as Frank Grimes (or Frank Grimes Jr.)" comment
here, but I expect to see him in at least one background scene - he'll
probably get the Ruth Powers/Lurleen Lumpkin treatment (written
specifically for one episode, and has the very occasional speaking
role afterwards).)

This is a lie. My mother is older than 52, doesn't live in CT and didn't
create this character.

It doesn't realy sound like a new character. It kind of sounds like
Bumble Bee Man, mixed with a "lady's man". I'm sure "Senor Ding-DOng"
wasn't the only time we've seen that sort of character. Come to think of
it, we sort of saw that sort of character in that episode that had
elements of "Catch Me If You Can", the older gentleman who pursued Grampa
Simpson.

Yes, I can see this character rapidly disappearing into the background
after a big launch.

But other than that, the story was accurate.

I don't see any connection to Bumble Bee Man other than that they're
both Hispanic. Maybe a little of the others, depending on how it's
played.

I reckon they need to focus on another character along the lines of Dr
Nick, Lionel Hutz or Mayor Quimby... you know - the dodgy, corrupt type
of characters. Always put a smile on my face, they did.

After reading the notice, it reminded me the main singer of Tito Puente's
revenge song from Who Shot Mr. Burns.

Not sure if the character was named or based actually on a real Tito's
band member.

Well, do you think that maybe ... gee ... that there could be ANOTHER
woman named Peggy Black in the world?

Oh, wait, you're being sarcastic, trying to be funny. You should write
for the Simpsons; that post was just about as funny.
