No deal. When I tried to check it out (I was connected while watching
the Simpsons), I got a message that the name wasn't defined (at least
with my ISP's DNS server). Too bad they didn't set up an additional
web site to match...

I think it was www.studynet.net, not .edu.

The point is moot, it would seem, for neither address appears to be
valid.

Face it -- who hasn't visited that phony website since this episode
aired? So much for needing Netscape or Microsoft Explorer to view that
site. :)

It's amazing to think that this topic is 17 years old

Google Groups was created in 2001, three years after Google itself.
But Usenet, which this newsgroup is part of, has been around since
1979. Google acquired Usenet archives dating back to 1981 from
several sources, including DejaNews and Henry Spencer.

It must be weird being younger than The Simpsons (which began in 1987
or 1989, depending on whether you count the Ullman shorts).

I've been using email since 1974, and I've saved all my old emails.
My slowest reply was to someone who gave me a punched paper tape
and asked me to read it for him, as he know I could read it by eye.
It was far too long for that to be practical, so I put it away.
Eventually I wrote a program to read it on my flatbed scanner. So I
emailed him the contents of the tape -- only about 40 years after he
gave it to me.
