Notes for MABF01 (Oh Brother, Where Bart Thou?)

OK, seemed like a decent episode, also with shades of 9F12 (Brother
from the Same Planet) and 5F13 (This Little Wiggy). I liked some of
the little things, like Lisa's fashion show and the extended bits with
the Smothers Brothers. South Park setup was sort of funny but had a
bit of a tasteless end. (Actually, because of the 4 people lined up
straight on it reminds me also of the KOTH intro parody in DABF21
[Helter Shelter].) Nelson on birth control... tee hee argh. School
closings personal prank by Chalmers: kind of funny, but really? Ending
with Charlie getting it worse than even Bart sister-wise was fun. But
again, overall not bad, and certainly ending on a high note with the
return of the Smothers Brothers.

DYN:
...the opening floating thing (Homer in balloon chair, R to L) is
appropriate for the guest star (Jordan Nagai of Up)?
...Sideshow Bob and Cecil in "brother" dream?
...odd head-on smile on Homer while they watch the Kama Sutra DVD?
...Farmer Dan's link sausages?

Other stuff
-Milhouse says his parents used the Kama Sutra DVD to conceive him; he
phrased it to imply he meant that actual DVD, or at least that title
on DVD, and I suppose if we assume he's 10 years old in 2009 that
would just work.
-I figured the Nelson "tac-tic" gag would keep showing up. I imagine
it shows up elsewhere but it reminds me of a part from that movie
"John Tucker Must Die" where the character got similarly emotional.
-Would fireworks really go off just from a match being lit nearby?
-The couch gag, with all the furniture dancing around, reminded me
slightly of The Brave Little Toaster. Just a random note, really.

And
Aaron Hirshberg's recent post about LABF18 (Pranks and Greens)
mentioned the pool cover scene coming from Thunderball. I haven't seen
that in years, and only once, but if it is a reference, that would
certainly explain why the joke on American Dad that night was very
very similar.
