That agreement should have been more carefully worded. After all, we
don't really "overlook the statue defecation"--we tolerate it while
expending considerable energies to overcome the effects of it. That
price seems a little steep just to have pigeons get out of our way.

Hee hee. I was rooting for Boston in the 2004 World Series. Great
team. But in 2007 I was rooting for the Rockies (I live in Wyoming and
people here are, by and large, Rockies fans.)
Back in the 1980s, we lived in California and had a New York station
on our cable that aired every single Mets game. Our kids were in
Little League at the time and we watched the games religiously. We
knew every player and Keith Hernandez was a family favorite. Him,
along with Mookie Wilson and Gary Carter were household names. We were
thrilled when the Mets came to L.A. to play at Dodger Stadium. We went
to the game and had the time of our lives. It was strange, though,
rooting for the Mets in L.A. People gave us funny looks.

In the mid 70s I lived just outside NYC in New Jersey and was actually a
Yankees fan. I can't mention that in my town or I'll get exiled over to
New York.
But that's how it goes in sports. Ya root for the team you have.

baseball: I am not even familiar with the rules of the game. I am not
kidding. I don't know how the scores are kept, I don't know how many players
are out there on the field, I don't know how the two teams take turns at
playing, and I have no clue whatsoever of what all the jargon means: I only
understand the metaphoric meanings of terms like "first base" and "home run"
but I wouldn't recognize any if I see it. I never watched a baseball game:
not on TV not anywhere (although I spent a year living in New Jersey and
went into the city several times, of course, and saw Yankee Standium twice,
both from them 3-hour boat rides around Manhattan).
Yet I like Seinfeld (of course, I missed the whole point when baseball
celebraties make appearance and I had to read-up about Steinbrenner over
Wikipedia) and much other Americana that refers strongly to baseball (as one
example, I really liked that movie "Fields of Dreams" with Kevin Costner).d

I lived in Australia during my early years of childhood, so I learned
about cricket, soccer, rugby & Aussie Rules football. They had
basketball, but I never got into that. Returned to the U.S. in the 6th
grade and didn't know jack shit about baseball or football or
basketball, so I was always the last kid picked. I became a Red Sox fan
because I used to work at a radio station as a board op during the games
and it kind of grew on me. I really became a NFL fan after 9/11 because
I got nauseated watching just about everything else on TV.

Nope, the brim's too big. Too easy to tack on walking papers after
a well earned siesta at work.
I do, however, wear Panama hats, though only in season. I don't
believe GQ back issues go that far into the past when they were once
considered in style.
