Does anyone know whether in RD 5 (or the inevitable 6), there will be
any appearances of the lovely late Kristine Kochanski, or any of the
other characters from the pre-disaster Red Dwarf... Petersen, the Captain,
et cetera? Or have such continuity-based plots been tossed on the
scrapheap?
Personally, I'd love to see a story where they follow up on "Stasis Leak"
and Lister travels back in time yet again to the same point. It could be
done as a spoof of all the "Back to the Future Part II" - style
avoid-paradoxes-at-all-costs attitude -- do you think Lister would care
(or even understand) stuff like that?...
Or at the very least, they could finally do an episode where Lister sees
"Run For Your Wife"...
Yup. None of the old RD crew show up in RD 5.

They've really wrapped up the whole Lister/Kochanski thing. Remember that
almost-throwaway line in "Dimension Jump" where Lister says that "Ace"
Rimmer told him that in the alternate universe, he's a mechanic for the
space corps, nicknamed "spanners", married to christine kochanski...
I think it's safe to assume that the alternate Lister in "Stasis Leak" is
Spanners. Especially as they both had beards.

Always note the sequencer - this will never let us down.
I had heard a rumour that CP Grogan is in a band in Australia,
and that it's her voice that sings the closing credit theme song.
Can anyone confirm this?

You know, this never occurred to me. It's a good continuity
link, but I'm fairly sure it's accidental. It's good that they
haven't forgotten the old characters, at least a "Kochanski"
shows up in Season Five (Back to Reality).
On another note, since I'm new to this newsgroup, I wanted to
apologize if this has been posted before, but I've also heard
that Mac (Hollister) McDonald is in the extra long letter box
version of Aliens as a crewmember.
According to a cast list of the Current Royal Shakespear Company (RSC) performing
at stratford this is not correct as one of the actresse's list in her previous
activities singing the theme to Red dwarf. Though as I remember the word theme
didnt actually apear in the wording...I'll have to track down her name...When I
get it I will post it....If I remember.
john.
As far as I know though, she's still in the UK doing the
occasional bit for BBC drama (and please please please RD VI!)
Jer.
I managed to find the info I was looking for...aparently the singers name is
Jenna Russel. The programme reads under her name includes a section titled
Recordings under which is Red-Dwarf (Theme tune).
john.
I can't confirm that it's her singing the end theme song, but she used to be
in a band called Altered Images. I've got one of their albums (it's not
very good). Her singing voice doesn't sound much like the voice that sings
the end credits, but the album is many years old...
Anyway, Claire (CP) Grogan also showed up in a bunch o' movies. Check out
"Gregory's Girl" - a really sweet little scottish comedy by that director
guy whose name is totally eluding me. Bill Forsythe... i think... (he also
did "Local Hero" which was really good.)
Speaking of Petersen, whilst watching the Aliens Special Edition, my
brother seemed to think that one of the actors in the new scenes (op
the planet) was the actor who played Petersen in the Stasis Leak
episode. Can anyone post the names of the people he may be thinking of?
The name of the actor who played Petersen would be most important.
Any help much appreciated
Jared Quinert
Sorry this has nothing to do with Red Dwarf, but I've
got to say how shocked 'n' stunned I was when I saw
Gregory's Girl in the US - It was dubbed! I couldn't
believe it! Can Americans not understand a Scottish
dialect? Claire Grogan has just the cutest voice you
could hear, but here she was with a very suspicious
non-white english accent.
(flame off)
Does anyone know why the Beeb, in their infinite wisdom,
are repeating season IV at the moment in a totally random
order?
Actually it probably isn't Petersen he's thinking of, but rather the
captain (who also appears in Stasis Leak). The actor who plays the captain
of Red Dwarf is also the head of the colony in Aliens (the special edition).
I don't know the actor's name but it's definitely him.

Petersen was played by Mark Williams. I saw him in an episode I have on
tape. Perhaps somebody could help me identify it, because I don't have
the first few minutes, so I don't know the title. It was from Red Dwarf
I, and involved Lister taking an exam to become a chef, so that he can
have a higher rank than Rimmer, and go on a date with Kochanski.
Incidentally, I missed the episode after this one. Did it have anything
to do with Lister's higher rank, or was it totally unrelated?

The version I have on tape is most certainly not dubbed and I taped it off a
local UHF station.

Her accent is to DIE FOR. (Any cute available scottish women who sound
exactly like Claire Grogan may send email instantaneously, or better yet,
leave a message on the voicemail system!)

It hardly makes any difference. There's no inter-episode continuity. (Hell
there's hardly any intra-episode continuity.)
