They were innocent fun, designed for an audience who found their
storytelling techniques to be as clever and communicative as shadowplays or
Muppets or any other non-human style.

I've seen some plays many times but, as long as the interpretation is fresh
and the story is worth hearing, I don't give a flying fuck HOW that telling
of the story is achieved.

And, while we're at it, programs made for TV these days are often formulaic
beyond belief (comedies that go for the "little laugh, little laugh, weak
laugh, big laugh" formula, for example).

Apart from incorporating a basic assumption that "there will be an
emergency, the stringed ones will put it right", ALL the Anderson shows had
proper varied story lines with proper scripts and proper voice actors.

Many's the time I've felt that "King of the Hill", in particular, could just as
easily have been made as a live-action sitcom and it would have been better than
a good eighty percent of anything it was made to compete with....r
