Return of The Prisonbear
Simply Paul
for a couple of months - there's a little story about it on the
Unmutual web site. Having given it a final polish this week, I've
uploaded two .wmv versions to my web site at
http://www.snapsandbytes.co.uk/prisonbear. I'll upload the 109Mb (!)
Mpeg version at the weekend, for flashy broadband users to enjoy.
The basic idea behind the film is a mixture of The Adam and Joe Show's
toy-movie spoofs (they made Toytanic, Furends, and others between 1997
and 2000. Mine has less swearing) and, of course, the Prisoner.
Reaction's been very positive so far and I hope readers of this forum
will enjoy it too.

It's very, very, very good work. It keeps to the original, but keeps
the humour fresh by dropping in just enough asides and references to
other TV to stop it becoming monotonous, and it knows when to stop.

An 8Mb highly-compressed version, a 22Mb ok one and a 44Mb hi-res one.
The 109Mb Mpg I tried uploading this weekend is there - mostly. It
appears my host has an 90Mb upload limit as the remote host kept
pinging me off after 8hours connected. Mind you, I only worked that out
having spent 16 hours online at a cost of about £10. Arse. If I can't
get that limit removed I have a 88Mb low-compression wmv file to upload
next weekend.
I've also been putting ideas together for a follow up... :o)

Suggestion : try uploading it to any of these Video sites that have
appeared recently, like Google Video.
They usually convert automatically to flash video, so as long as
people have the plug-in, you don't have to go converting hundreds of
different formats.
It'll mean that you can keep your site bandwidth relatively low as
well.

Have you thought about converting the MPG into an avi file in
divx/xvid format?

6's secret other/past life which was in danger of being exposed. It's
not why he resigned!
I have signed up to Google videos to see if I can upload the bigger MPG
I have there. It's running at the moment... Wish me luck :-)
I've toyed with AVI settings on my software (Roxio VideoWave 5 Power
Edition) but can't get a decent AVI with a lower bit-rate at the same
resolution and frame-rate as the mpeg I made. The 44Mb wmv's not at all
bad, but I wanted something which would run full-screen and still look
good - remembering that the film was shot at 320x240.
Set and prop building is underway for the follow up. More news when I
have it :-D

Took only twenty-seven minutes to download the smallest while it would
have taken two hours for the largest file. I guess that's good for
dial-up (the Nineteen-Sixties of internet connections)

I bet if you asked his wife and daughters they would say Patrick
McGoohan is a teddy bear. So actually Simply Paul has revelaed a deep
dark secret that PMG was trying to keep hidden. ;-)
