Subject: Well, No doubt about it…We’ve got Chad CRANE!

Color me partially happy today. Well, we heard it from the horse’s mouth:

Chad IS Julian’s son.

Which is why old Grandpa Alistair wanted it all erased. He didn’t even want
there to be a notion of that Chad’s roots were in Harmony. I loved it.

I’ve been a proponent of Chad Crane from the very beginning, and I’m sticking
with it.

I will STILL say that the most bang for the buck is with Chad being Julian AND
Eve’s child. If they chicken out and make Chad the child of some woman we don’t
know and don’t care about , I will be PISSED.

But, I’m happy, for now, with the Chad CRANE part of it all.

Alistair said that Julian didn’t know that Chad was his son, and that he would
keep the information from Chad’s mother as long as possible, UNLESS he was
forced to use it against her. That could be taken in so many ways, but, here’s
how Alistair could use the information AGAINST Eve: he could tell her that her
son was alive, and that only HE knows where he is. The question is…what would
Eve do to get that information.? That could be a very interesting situation
indeed.

The level of the complexity of the story with Chad being Julian and Eve’s is
too much to ignore, and we saw it yesterday.

I will take the time to say that I have TOTALLY loved seeing TC on this much. I
love TC, and think that he gets a bad rap. He’s one of the more underwritten
characters on the show, but, I think that Rodney does his best to show as many
different facets to TC as possible.

Watching TC who has ‘caught a clue’, has been a wonderful thing. I love him.
He’s looking at Eve with new eyes. Like he’s seeing her for the first time.
Believing that she and Julian are Chad’s parents, and wondering what this is
going to do to his family.

Eve, for her part, is broken-hearted, thinking that her family could be
destroyed in just a few minutes.

When TC came back inside yesterday, and she pulled him into a hug, and held
onto him tight, you could see just how much she has to lose. Her entire life,
all she really wanted was a family of her own. It was her dream, and TC gave
her that dream. She loves him, she truly does.

Yes, she should have told him the truth about her past with Julian. But, by the
time she met TC, she had been so broken hearted, and so desperate, she never
thought she could feel again. When she discovered that she could feel again,
she was too afraid to risk it. No, it doesn’t mean that Eve was right, she was
just very ‘human’, which is one of the main reasons why I love the character.

She told TC that their family, him and girls, meant everything to her, and
without them, she would die. And, she told him that she hoped that he knew she
would never do anything ‘intentionally’ to hurt them. The look in TC’s eyes as
he told her that he felt the same way…I don’t know, it totally moved me.

He held her hands in his. And, it was with every fiber in his being: he meant
it. His family DID mean everything to him, and here is a man who honestly,
didn’t know what he wanted. Did he want to be right? Did he want the truth from
his wife? I don’t think so. He wishes he could turn back the clock, and go back
to a time when he was certain about one thing: his wife and their life
together. It was so much a part of TC, that, he, too, would be lost without it.
There was a quivering in his voice when he told her that he agreed with her.
That their family was everything to him too.

Eve was trying to get up the courage to tell TC, when Chad called her over to
the computer. TC KNOWS that there’s something in his wife’s past that he
doesn’t know about. Even if it’s not Julian, it’s something BAD. He knows his
wife. He can see her nervousness. As she typed in the password on the computer,
TC had his fingers on his wedding band. I thought that was a terrific choice of
non-silent acting by Rodney, that accompanied, his line, ‘ I know I’m right’.
Usually when one is ‘right’ about something, they are happy for it. Not TC. For
him, it’s a nightmare, because being right, would destroy that which means most
to him: what that wedding ring symbolizes.

I loved all the emotions in the lab today. Eve couldn’t contain herself, as she
read the lab results and told Chad that he wasn’t related to anyone. Chad was
too sweet for words, as he took Eve’s crying, as sorrow for him, in not finding
his parents. Knowing how far Eve and he had come since the first time that they
met, those tears meant the world to Chad, because Eve cried them. He told her
that he knew WHY she had cried those tears: because she had warned him about
the possibility of it being a dead end, and she hadn’t wanted Chad to get his
hopes up, only to be dashed, as had happened. He thanked Eve for her tears, and
when she reached out to touch his hand, I nearly cried.

TC doesn’t believe it. Sam tells him that he was wrong, and TC tells him that
maybe Julian and Eve weren’t in the database, but, Eve tells him that both she
and Julian are in the database. I have truly enjoyed Sam’s role as supportive
friend to TC. I loved it yesterday when Sam was telling TC that it was
ridiculous to think that Julian and Eve had a relationship, and TC snapped
back, " oh, like it was ridiculous for you and Ivy to have had an affair?" Sam
was hurt by TC’s comments, even though they were true. I loved that moment,
because it was something that friends DO to one another. They do hurt one
another like that, because they usually know the emotional stuff with which to
hurt you. TC apologized to Sam, because he knew it was a low blow, and I
thought it was definitely a spot of realism there. It was also another
wonderful exchange between TC and Sam today, when Sam encouraged TC to be
honest with Eve, and tell her what has been on his mind. He wants for his
friend to learn from HIS mistakes. And, TC, in turn, totally encouraged Sam not
to give up on Grace or their love. Things might be chilly, but, they weren’t
hopeless. I love the TC/Sam friendship. They go back and forth with one
another, and will see one another through the bad times…I’m pretty sure of
that.

I loved the double meaning of when Chad said, " she cried because she found
what she was afraid of." What was Eve afraid of? Chad being her son, or Chad
NOT being her son.
Chad has no idea that she is crying, IMO, because she’s devastated that the
computer search said that Chad was NOT her son, which made her tears even more
moving. I don’t think it hit Eve until she saw it on the screen, just how much
she wanted it to be true. Sure, it would have turned her life into absolute
chaos, but, this is a woman who has mourned the loss of her son everyday since
the day he ‘died’. To find out that this child that you grieved for in silence
could actually be alive, and that you possibly know him? It was a nightmare,
but, also, it was a dream. A dream Eve didn’t know she had. Part of her was
relieved that the computer said Chad wasn’t her son….but, not nearly as much as
she believed.

Now that the test results have come back ‘negative’, one would think that
things would go back to ‘things as usual’. But, unlike what happened between
Miguel and Kay in the mineshaft was swept away, I believe that the emotional
wounds opened during this ordeal will not close. TC will NOT go back to being
‘Clueless TC’, despite what he told Sam today. He sounded like he was going
from a well-rehearsed script, but, something inside of him has awoken, and he
will not be as naïve about Eve as he’s been being. The bond of trust between
them has been frayed, and won’t have a chance of being repaired until Eve
admits the truth to TC. When Grace comes back into the Lab to see Eve, she
admits that she’s all over the place. Feelings long buried have been unearthed,
and she is a muddled mess of emotions right now, so much so that if TC came in
and mentioned Julian, she would tell him everything about her time with Julian.

The emotional baggage unearthed during all of this is good soap, which is why
I enjoy this storyline nearly the most of all in Passions. The story of Chad
Crane involves so many REAL emotions, between people who feel passionately
about one another (Julian/Eve, Julian/TC, TC/Eve, Julian/Chad, Eve/Chad, Eve
and her family), that I find it a great relief from the supernatural and
ridiculous slants in other stories.

While in the lab waiting for the DNA results, Eve was nervous, started crying
silently, and after everyone left, actually broke into real sobbing tears. Was
this the big emotional breakdown the spoilers mentioned? If so, does 'fizzle' come
to mind?
