Gary and i are members of the HRC (Human Rights Campaign) and usually
they have a big True Colors concert tour event anually to benefit the
HRC and other various gay related charities (Matthew Sheppard fund,
etc). It is an event organized by Cyndi Lauper and is usually a big
line up of a concert that tours in the Summer. This past summer they
didn't have one though, unfortunately. I went in 2008 and had 4th row
seats for Cyndi, the B-52's, Andy Bell, Wanda Sykes, etc. (Had the
time of my life and have pictures on my My Space page if anyone is
interested).
BUT- they did just release a whole bunch of aucionable "meet and
greet" type of stuff, all for charity of course- a meet and greet with
Kathy Griffin (who we love), a meet and greet with tarot reading from
Cyndi Lauper, M & G with Annie Lennox, Margaret Cho (who Gary knows,
actually) and Lady Gaga- among several others goodies.
One of which... ahem.. is a Private Studio Tour for 4 of ABC's One
Life to Live hosted by Brett Claywell ("Kyle Lewis") and Scott Evans
("Oliver Fish").
OMG OMG! (clump). Oh sorry.. i fell over there for a second.
Thing is- we could (fortunately) afford it if we wanted to.. but i
don't do travel well. Especially a long plane trip to NYC. Am i crazy
for not jumping on this or what? Auction ends Tuesday. Good Lord if i
met Scott Evans in person- i just might lick him when he isn't looking
i swear. (I can see it now- he will turn around and glare at me and
ask "Did you just lick the back of my neck?? eeew!" LOL)
I might not be able to contain myself and make a total fool of myself.
Oy.. what to do! And if Erika Slezak were there i might actually drop
to my knees and genuflect to her i swear to God.
Even all the other aucionables are very cool stuff- with the exception
of a meet and greet thing with Donald Trump. Don't know WTF he is
doing on there- being as he is NO friend of the gays after bashing
Rosie O and large women everywhere and referred to her as a "Fat Ugly
Dyke" (as if he can talk about looks, right?). Thats not just an
insult to her- but to large women everywhere and he is a sexist pig
moron in my book.
But to meet Kyle and Fish and have a studio tour with them?? Ohhh. i
am beside myself and am hating my phobias right about now, honestly.
Anyhow- i just had to share that with the only people (besides Gary)
who would give a crap. You lovely peeps.
Should i just talk my Dr. into giving me a ton of valium for making
the trip?
I doubt i will go for it.. but seriously, seriously thinking about
it.
Hmmm..
Cheers people. I am hating myself right now LOL
Happy Holidays!
Eddie
BTW- i am aware that the word "auction" contains a "T" but my proof
reading skills and my excitement got the better of me. Sorry <g>.

Put your fears aside and go, my friend. you will not regret it!
In the summer of 1997, I got to spend two days at the OLTL studios,
watching rehearsals. I was one of a handful of fans allowed backstage.
We just stood or sat quietly and watched. It was absolutely one of the
best times I've ever had. The staff and crew members were so
incredibly nice, especially Alan, the Stage Manager. I got to see (but
not talk to): Susan Haskell and Thorsten Kaye, Hilary Smith, Phil
Carey, Robin Strasser (possibly the nicest and most humble person I've
ever met--she actually talked to us), Erica Slezak, and the guy who
was playing Kevin then (I can't remember his name--I'm sorry that it
was not Dan Gauthier, because I think he's terrific--the best Kevin
they've ever had). Also, the actor who played Mel (can't remember his
name) was wonderful, too. He had this devilish gleam in his eye I will
never forget! And ALL of them were incredibly beautiful, way more
than they seem on TV.
I loved seeing how the whole process comes together. I also was
fascinated by the difference between the two directors I saw--Gary
Donatelli, who was all business, and the woman (I can't think of her
name), who was a lot more go-with-what-I'm-feeling-at-the-moment. The
individual sets are way smaller than you think. They really do fool
the eye into thinking that they are larger and have more depth than
they actually do.
All the crew people talked to us, asking us where we were from, etc.
When I told them I was from New Mexico, they all got all excited.
Apparently, Santa Fe enjoys an excellent reputation among New
Yorkers!
All in all, it was a most excellent, exciting, and fun way to spend
two days in New York. I can only guess how much more fun you would
have if you got a guided tour as a contest winner! Let's do this: If
you win, you can give the trip to me! I'll take lots of pictures and
bring back autographs, too! I promise! :)
julinoe
Ah Julie! That sounds sooooo cool.
And i've always heard Robin Strasser is a great lady in person. Sounds
like a great time!
Ok- here's the thing, Julie and Suzanne (replying to two posts in
one). For years i was very agorophobic- hardly ever leaving the house
and even if i did- i would not leave my neighborhood. That on top of
tons of anxiety issues i will not bore you guys with. This is not my
"pity party" LOL.
Anyways only a year and a half or so ago- i'd begun to get out and
about more. Going to the True Colors concert sort of did it for me.
Now i am back to going out occasionally to our fave pub in the Castro
where we met- and sometimes theatre (i've seen "Wicked" five times
over this past summer/autumn and have tix for my Birthday as well.
Tonight we are going to see "The 39 Steps") well.. now i stray.
But it's only just been recently i've let myself get out and enjoy the
city again. I'm not sure if i'd be up for that sort of travel. I have
major anxiety about lots of things and flying is one of them. Being
cooped up like that in a plane. I think i'd have a fit to be honest.
And that'd be too humiliating.
i REALLY wanna go for it- but i sorta doubt i will. Still tho- it is a
great opprotunity. If it were just a studio tour- that'd be cool
enough.. but my biggest current TV Land Crush (Fish). Oh jeez. I adore
that guy.
Right now the auction bid is up to like $3500 or so i think. We can
afford it due to an inheritance that Gary got when he lost a family
member 2 years ago. AND Gary is a huge Broadway fan- so he'd be
thrilled as he has not been to NYC in about 10 years or so.
I dont think i have it in me to go... honestly. If i change my mind-
you guys here will certainly be the first to know.
Oh and i forgot to mention- Gary's boss has a sister who works on OLTL
in the wardrobe dept. So we sort of allready have an in. His boss has
said if we ever get to NYC she will give us a studio tour, as she has
done for other family members and friends. HELLO! Silly monkey i am.
I might see if i can muster up some bravery and kick myself in the
butt and go for it- likely not. But i at least had to share the info
with my peeps in here.
(sigh)
i'll keep ya posted.
Thx to both of you for your encouragement. That's very nice.
Cheers!
Eddie
Mind you, this is coming from someone who is at the bottom of the heap
at the moment financially and my outlook is tainted by recognizing the
value of the dollar - the final decision needs to be made by yourself
for your own reasons, but that's at least something you may want to
consider that no one else has brought up yet.

Those are some good points, DW. The "comfort level" thing is HUGE with
me.
Honestly- we sometimes feel guilty that we can afford such things. My
entire life was spent living paycheck to paycheck. But Gary has a
really decent job and makes good moolah (he didn't used to but he's
worked hard for it).
That toppped with the fact of the inheritance- which was from a very
horrible death in the family that is almost too awful to describe. We
don't like to toss money around without thought and consideration. We
donate.. we enjoy our small creature comforts. Also the relative who
passed away was a big Broadway show fan. On top of money- he left Gary
a huge collection of some very vintage (and possibly valuable)
Playbills from shows going all the way back to the 1950's. Those you
can't put a price on. Those are keepers for any fan of the stage- as
Gary has been involved in theatre locally thru most of his life.
But that being said- that is part of why we don't mind spending the
money on Broadway shows that come here. Uncle Ray would want that.
But- money matters aside.. you are quite right.
If i ever feel brave enough to do so- we do still have that other in.
I just needed to tell my OLTL pals about this and ponder it a bit.
It is alot of money- but it is for one of the best causes we can think
of- that's for sure. Gay marriage is being shot down state by state
and this is a portion of what these proceeds go to.
And the fact that it is Scott Evans had me all in a flutter, as you
might understand LOL.
Sorry if i came off as being so casual about the cost. I've been at
the bottom of the heap as well almost my entire life and i totally
relate. Wishing you good things in the upcoming new year. Maybe things
will turn around.
Til then- i will consider your sage advice! Thanks!
Cheers!
E.
PS- i was re-reading the e-mail about it, another one of the things
being auctioned off is a day on the set and Lunch with Judge Judy!
That's another fave of mine- but frankly i think she'd scare me to
death LOL
I agree... Tell us all about Kish in real life!
I know it's not something we like to think
about, but with the cancellation announcement
for ATWT coming this week and after the
end of GL, the soaps are dropping like flies!
Once AMC makes its move to the West Coast,
OLTL will be the only NYC based soap left.
And conspiracy theories are rife with speculation
that the clock is ticking on OLTL's continuance.
Bottom line, if you really, really love
OLTL and its actors, it may not be around
long enough for you to work out your issues
about flying and travelling.
You might also want to consider making an
extended vacation out of a trip to NYC and
<gasp!> go the old-fashioned way, by train.
Think of the scenery! You could travel in
comfort in a roomette or suite and you
and Gary could imagine you're in an old
movie from the era of Nick and Nora Charles
and the Thin Man movies. :) Yeah, it would
take a chunk of time, especially compared
to flying, but it would be the trip of
a lifetime PLUS you'd have your OLTL tour
as part of it.
Me, if I had the $$, I'd go for it! I'd
LOVE to meet Erika Slezak and Robin Strasser
and if Dan Gauthier is back on the set by
then...a BONUS!
Think hard, Eddie...you don't want to regret
missing this in your old age.
Nyssa, who has the urge to travel but not the
resources
That is also a good point to consider, Nyssa. The slow death of
daytime tv and its next victim. Frankly- i woudn't miss AMC one tiny
bit, but OLTL has been a mainstay my entire life.
I also did consider train travel and have sort of *always* wanted to
do that. Oooooooo! the romantic in me would love all that stuff- even
the inabillity to sleep due to the motion LOL. Fun fun.
If we made a trip to NYC- yes.. it would be extended- not just a hit
and run. Being as Gary is such a Broadway baby.. and i've never been
to NY. His sister has a home in Connecticut just about 45 minutes away
from the city.. so there is always that too.
I shall ponder all of these things. I only have til Tuesday when the
auction closes. I gootta check and see what the bid is up to today.
Thanks to you all for your input and understanding of my
uuh....limitations LOL.
Cheers and Happy Friday!
Eddie
PS- saw the play of Hitchcock's "The 39 Steps" last night. HATED it.
Good thing it was short or i'd have left LOL.
Eddie, you should should should SHOULD go!
(if I were you, it would be Kyle's neck that I .... favor!)
I hear ya, Kyle is also very cute and the fact that his character has
a shady past is always something that i find attractive for some
reason. Love me some bad boys! But they are bad for ya, usually. In
real life the "hot, but trouble" guys always usually head right for
Da' Monkey LOL
But Fish.. oh my.. that boy is just too scrummy for words.
Being as Scott Evans is actually gay makes him a bit more attractive
to me though- but both are definitely very cute guys.
And as DW put it once- Fish has this "bear cubbish" quality. Little
fuzzy puppy dog eyed thing that he is.
The bid is still the same as yesterday so far. And it seems the same
one person keeps jacking the bidding price up. Makes one wonder....
<snippity snip snip>
Oh jeez! The bid is up to $5,750!!!
There is absolutely no WAY i can justify spending that amount of money
for this.
The other night- Gary was about to hit the Bid button and i screamed
NOO!
LOL
I didnt want to have him commit me to something i might not be up for.
Also- i thought of DW and soooo many other people right now who are
having such a hard time making ends meet- something i completely
understand. I'd give myself guilt about it to no end- i know. That's
how i am.
Plus that- i knew the bid would go up and it has. Ends tomorrow. It'll
be interesting to see how much it goes for. I will let ya know.
It was fun to be a bit excited about it for a few minutes though.

It's probably a relief to you have have the question finally answered. It's
probably best this way. If you HAD been able to afford it and still didn't
go, you'd be kicking yourself for the rest of your life (and we'd be kicking
you too!). It's too bad that you can't go, but at least you KNOW this now,
rather than wondering.
--S.
Oh, i could still afford it. And Gary would be ready to go to NYC in a
heartbeat (or should that be- in a "New York Second" <groan>).
I just will not shell out that kind of money for something sooooo
extravagent and frivolous.
And you are correct.
It is a relief instead of fretting about it and then having it on my
inner naggy guilt voice LOL.
Happy Holidays, all!!
So- an hour before the bidding ended- it was still at $5,750.
Then i meant to check just at the last minute to see if it had went up
the bidding was closed- and they don't show the price it actually went
for afterwards. Which i found odd- but not really if ya think about
it. I'm just assuming it probably went for that price.
Ah well- some other time eh?
Cheers, peeps!
Eddie
Awww, I am sorry you didn't go. But like you said, perhaps next time.
