It hit me that OLTL has a sketchy track record when it comes to naming
characters in a way that makes me not be able to take them seriously.
Every time someone goes on about Ross, i get visions of the snarky
director from You Can't Do That on Television.
Likewise, i could never take Nathan Jones seriously because of the very
bubblegummy Bananarama song by the same name ("You never wrote me/You
never called/Nathan Jones, you've been gone too long")
And to this day i can't think of McBain without thinking of the
Simpsons' parody of Arnold Scwartzenager movies. (Even Marcie had the
whole Pepperment Patty's friend going for her - then she became Marcie
McBain!)
Of course, the show can sometimes be responsible for it itself. If by
some miracle, the show stays on long enough for Bree to grow up into a
young woman, i'll always think of her as Gouda thanks to Tina!
(And oh yes, Officer Fish reminded me of Barney Miller for the longest
time - but Stacy/Kim managed to get me out of that through their Officer
Tuna schtick - one of the very few times i found the pair hilarious!)
Thankfully Blair and Natalie rarely share scenes because get them
together and it's hard to resist the urge to start singing "You take the
good/You take the bad/You take them both/And there you have the Facts of
Life"

commentary plus other areas of interest and cool stuff.
I sort of like Ross- but to be honest.. i think it is just because i
find the actor to be quite handsome in my ever so humble opinion lol.
Plus they have not shaved and waxed him down (yet). Which i prefer to
the Ken Doll look. I think the previous actor who played him had a
similar effect on me. I just remember him being quite nice to look
at.
With Fish- i sorta thought the same thing too (the Abe Vigoda
charactor from Barney Miller). But when he started out his name was
"Eddie" (which is my name) so i liked that. Then somehow it went to
"Oliver" and i've no idea why or how. But he was an Eddie when he
started on the show.
Oh and kudos for the Bananarama mention. I used to love that song! Now
it may be stuck in my head all weekend. Thanks for that. LOL j/k
Have a good weekend, all.
Cheers!
Eddie

I like this Ross, whereas I didn't like the other one, probably because I
tend to not like pretty boys. This guy just seems REAL. His age shows;
he's often weary, he's handsome but not gorgeous, and most of all, he is
convincing as the character. I like that his brother looks and sounds so
much like him, too. I'd like to see Ross stay on the canvas and get a
storyline more interesting than being Tea's whipping boy and Blair's
would-be lover.
--S.
Yes. He looks "real". Not "Shiny Soap Opera Pretty".
His brother isn't bad himself- and they do look quite a bit alike
don't they?
It's sort of like on AMC (which i only half way keep an eye on). The
guy playing Suart's son- i could swear he looks like he could be David
Canary's real life son. The same facial features and brow. Til i
looked him up on IMDB to find out for sure- i'd have sworn that it was
his real life son LOL. Good casting i must say, as far as hat goes.

..which is a standard for soaps - so i give OLTL tons of credit for
having several actors on canvas right now that hasn't been taken that
route - Along with Ross, you've got Brody and Fish who is just WAY too
yummy both shirtless and in tanks. (I was FURIOUS when a news pre-empt
cut into Fish's towel scene last week - When someone makes me miss
someone that beautiful shirtless AND WET, they have my full fury upon
them.)

And getting off topic since Bananarama came up, Siobhan Fahey's
post-Bananarama solo project, Shakespear's Sister (who is actually my
third fave group of all time next to Eurythmics and Pet Shop Boys) has a
new album coming out for the first time in way too long called Songs
From the Red Room. It includes some of the singles she had previously
released under her own name without the S.S. moniker.

His towel scene was pretty brief- but very nice.
At one point when they came back from the commercial spot.. the little
ad on the bottom of the screen for "V" was covering his nipple. I
screamed at the tv LOL.
Both Gary and i have a major big huge crush on Scott Evans. Wooftah.
Eddie was the jerky guy?
Oh hell. Oops.
Guess who likes to have cocktail hour with his soap at night lol. Easy
enough to confuse- tho i really thought Fish was "Eddie".

Ah yes. Much of my musical tastes were and still are 80's stuffs.
Although i have some new faves as well. (Current obsessions being The
Dresden Dolls and Scissor Sisters)
All those you mention were staples during my DJ'ing days back in the
early-mid 90's. I used to DJ til about 3 am in some of the clubs then
sometimes party afterwards and have to be at work at Toys R Us at
around 9:30 or 10 in the morning. I don't know how on Earth i did it.
That's what your 20's are for though i suppose.. I had everything PSB
had out and played them ALOT. Well- because they just mixed so easily
with just about everything.
And Shakespears Sister i used to play often as well. "Heroine" and
their cover of "White Rabbit" i used to play alot. Still great music.
My fave 80's band though always will be Romeo Void. They were sort of
not very well known. The studios didn't promote them much because the
lead singer was a plus sized gal and didn't give a shit who cared. Big
girls in music videos and on album covers tend to not do so well in
the eyes of the "Suits" so they ended up being relatively obscure. But
she was sassy and they had a killer Saxophone player.
Those along with Blondie, Eurythmics, Siouxsie & the Banshees are
still to this day some of my fave music. Deborah Harry is still
rocking it and she is like in her 60's or so. Her last cd showed she
can still jam with the best of them.
Speaking of Eurythmics- you may allready know this but they have this
terrific box set called "Boxed" that is awesome. It has all of their
cds (except the 1984 soundtrack) all remastered and each cd has about
4-6 extra tracks on them. B-Sides and remixes and such. Plus a booklet
with each cd of some never seen before gorgeous pics and backstory
about the band & what was going on at the time of that particular cd's
recording.
Santa brought me one Xmas before last i think it was. It's worth the
investment. I've no idea why the 1984 soundtrack was excluded. That is
one of my faves of theirs. Great stuff.
The version of Peace included is interesting, since bonus tracks aside
fans were wondering if a remaster of an album that just came out six
years prior was really needed - but a lot of the tracks on it are
different versions than the original release.
1984 wasn't included mainly because it was on a different record label.
(Virgin vs BMG)

that's sort of what i thought about the non-inclusion of 1984. Thats a
shame. It is a glaring omission imo. But then didnt they switch labels
with the release of "We Too Are One" from RCA to Arista?
I have to be honest though- "Peace" is one of my least favorites of
theirs.. so i really have not given the Boxed version much of a
listen. When it was released i got it of course being a fan- i had to,
right? I worked in a music store at the time and we played it around
the clock when it was new. There are a few tracks on there i really
like- but in general.. it's not a fave. It's a bit mellow for me.
I think i'd have to put "Savage" in that spot- next to 1984, of
course.
fish just goes with the word dead. dead fish. maybe stinky fish? there's
always fish-eye too.
ross isn't a bad name. the character is just boring.
Wonder if Stacy/Kim know how the term 'Tuna', is used by other
population groups!!??
Also, when Fish & Stacy did their 'procreating'; I could hear an old
friend from years
and years ago, in the back of my mind hollering, 'Fish done got
himself a fish!!'.
O! The play on words that come to mind as the show is broadcast!
Back to Ross: When this guy got cast, and then the spoiler of a child
surfaced; I
wondered if they'd take him back down the road of a 'who's the daddy',
battle royale
like he endured on AMC years back....
