3. GO:
Last June, GO cooked up something pretty explosive in the CBC
laboratory. Brent Bambury paired up Jim Cuddy from Blue Rodeo with a
high school string quartet for an exciting new rendition of the hit
song "Try". Go builds on that success this Saturday morning. Brent
welcomes back arranger and orchestral leader Kevin Fox for the first of
the official monthly Go Sessions. Kevin will be dropped into the
musical melange with Chris Murphy and Jay Ferguson of Sloan. Add a
pinch of orchestral harp and a dash of French horn and who knows what
will bubble up? That's Go, Saturday at 10 a.m. (10:30 NT) on CBC Radio
One.
4. MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD:

Woman and Child, with John Wing, Saturday morning at 11:30 (noon NT) on
CBC Radio One.
5. QUIRKS AND QUARKS:
Eat Your Words...this week on Quirks and Quarks. For most of us,
sitting down with the newspaper and a cup of coffee involves two
separate sensory experiences. One is the process of reading the paper.
The other is tasting the coffee. But for a very small group of people,
these two separate experiences become one. Reading a newspaper can
evoke strong tastes. Even hearing certain words can cause these people
to sense the taste of specific foods. The phenomenon is a form of
synesthesia - a rare condition in which a person's senses become
crossed. Imagine hearing the word "castanets" and tasting tuna fish. Or
tasting sausage when you hear the words "Roger", "Regina", "register",
or "edge". It gives a whole new meaning to having a taste for
literature. Find out more on Quirks and Quarks, with host Bob McDonald,
Saturday afternoon after the noon news (12:30 NT) on CBC Radio One.
6. DEFINITELY NOT THE OPERA:
This Saturday on DNTO, Sook-Yin Lee goes in search of the perfect

unsuspecting villagers. Plus comedian Fraser Young on The Pedestrian
Manifesto, and alt-country goddess Neko Case, caught live in concert.
That's on Definitely Not the Opera Saturday after the one p.m. news
(1:30 NT) on CBC Radio One.
7. TERRY O'REILLY AND THE AGE OF PERSUASION:

funny thing happens to men when they marry: their I-Qs drop 40 points
- and Terry O'Reilly has the Ads to prove it. This week, Terry takes
a playful look at the eternally fascinating differences between men and
women - and how they shape the world's greatest ads. Terry O'Reilly

Radio One.

of a new chapter in Canadian politics. Get the latest from the

hooker," while Deb Kimmett counters that legalizing the sex trade will
make it easier for kids to pick out a Father's Day present. That's
this week on The Debaters, Saturday evening at 6:30 (7:30 AT, 8 NT) on
CBC Radio One.
11. RANDY BACHMAN'S VINYL TAP:
Way back in the dim dark days before vinyl, if you were a singer in a
girl group, chances are you were a novelty act on a vaudeville stage.
Through the 1940s you might have teamed up with your sisters or your
cousins and entertained the troops or perhaps sang a song or two in a
movie. Then came the Sixties and the explosion of girl groups. It began
with the Shirelles and went on to include hundreds of different acts,
lasting right up until the Eighties with groups such as the Go-Gos,
Bananarama and The Bangles.
The Ronettes, The Chiffons, The Crystals, The Dixie Cups, The
Supremes... just a few of the girl groups you'll hear this week on
