RDI disappears from the web

Network Information (RDI) abandons the internet. Simulcast on the Internet,
RDI has been removed from the web October 29.

Result: Quebecers who live abroad, employees of embassies and consulates or
simply those who prefer to learn online have the possibility to follow the
news presented on RDI live on their computer.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has taken this decision in order
to facilitate discussions with cable operators. These are an evil eye to the
fact that RDI can watch for free on the web while they ask their customers to
pay for access to network information, to explain the director of the
Information Radio-Canada, Alain Saulnier, in a telephone interview with La
Presse.

"Currently, we seek a model for organizing the structure of the web, says he.
I think that sooner or later there will be a return of RDI Live. "

And if the network is again available online, will it be possible to capture
free as was the case previously? "I can not answer that," says Saulnier. It
will depend on the economic model that will emanate from these discussions.
"He adds in the same breath, believe in the importance of the web and ensures
that the CBC will continue to build on this platform.

"Sooner or later it will be a new way to make this type of media, says he,
however. He'll have to pay someone somewhere, if not all newspaper companies
will collapse. But nobody has yet found the right business model. "

Customers abroad

Following its decision, the CBC would have received about a hundred emails.
Jocelyn Dionne, a Quebecer who lives in Lyon in France, is among the Internet
users disappointed. "That's about the only and best way to learn about what
happens in Quebec," said he.

Notably: certain issues presented in the RDI as the club are former broadcast
delayed on the web. And users can still continue to listen to Radio-Canada.

Side CBC News Network, the situation differs because the network never
broadcast live 24 hours over 24 on the Internet, says Angus McKinnon, a
spokesman for CBC. Some shows are still available on the television network
after being aired on TV.
