The Jim Henson Co. has just picked up a script - starring the furry
creatures - targeting an adult audience.
The movie, currently titled The Happytime Murders, is a mystery flick
that will be made by the company's Henson Alternative deparment, which
is a division of Henson's that basically develops projects not for
kids.
Set on board to direct is Brian Henson, co-CEO of Jim Henson Co, and
one of the late Jim Henson's sons. As for the script, it was written
by Todd Berger.
Though this isn't the first 'adult' film Henson makes. Back in 1982
the company made The Dark Crystal, "which featured a dark tone and, in
one scene, nudity."
As for The Happytime Murders , it takes place in a special type of
world where humans co-exist with puppets.
However, the puppets are viewed as second-class citizens.
And then, when members of the famous '80s The Happytime Gang start to
get murdered one by one, "a disgraced puppet LAPD detective turned
private eye — with a drinking problem, no less — takes on the case."
Sounds sort of like Who Framed Roger Rabbit doesn't it?
The movie is being described as also having a comedy side to it, sort
of like Broadway's Avenue Q.
Sounds interesting!
Will U go watch The Happytime Murders ?
Epic Fail.
Look. The Muppets are dead. Today's generation doesn't care about the
Muppets. Actually, I'll refine that. Kids ONLY care about ((('Sesame
Street'))) Muppets for EDUCATIONAL reasons. Kids don't want Muppets
outside of learning; not for entertainment. The failed ABC TGIF
variety show 'Muppets Tonight' was the _last_ hurrah for J.H. and the
Muppets.
Let... them... go. You don't see people trying to resurrect 'Little
Lulu'. It's in the past. Leave it there. No Beaker. No Fozzie. No
Swedish Chef. Kermit can stay.... but keep it on 'Sesame Street'.
On your part, because...

...because the project in question isn't about or for kids, dipshit.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I can read, you asshole. I mean in general, the need
to force a dead horse upon us.

The Muppets were never "just for kids". They started out in
the world of "adult entertainment", and then got a gig doing Sesame
Street. Admittedly that gave them their Big Break so it creates
an illusion that they were made for kids. But sometimes you have
to have a day job to pay the bills for the night time art.
Meanwhile, they appeared on early episodes of Saturday Night Live,
and those certainly weren't aimed at the kids market.
And then they went to England and launched The Muppet Show. Yes,
kids could watch it, but it had adult guests that weren't real
fodder for kids, and it had adult humor. I was too old to be
interested in Sesame Street, but by the time "The Muppet Show"
came along, I watched it religiously, as a sixteen year old.
Any interest I've had in The Muppets have been as an adult,
or nearly adult.
I was an adult when Yoda the Muppet came along. I was an adult
when all the Muppet Movies came along. I was an adult when
everything after The Muppet Show came along.

This new movie isn't The Muppets or have anything to do with the
Muppets (no Kermit, Fozzie, etc.), it just a movie that uses puppets.
BUT, having said that it will almost certainly be a complete failure.
At best it's a ridiculously silly idea. :-\
=====And Isn't Enjoyment A Huge Part Of What Movies Are About?=====
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097858/
Heidi, the star of the "Meet The Feebles Variety Hour" discovers her
lover Bletch, The Walrus, is cheating on her, and with all the world
waiting for the show the assorted co-stars must contend with their own
problems. These include drug addiction, extortion, robbery, disease,
Drug dealing, and even murder. While this is happening the love
between two of the stars is threatened by the devious Trevor the Rat,
who wishes to exploit the young starlet for use in his porno movie
business. Written by The Losman (corrections by GTS)
The problem is that when they say something is "adult", it usually just
means over-sexed, realistic, boring crap.
In article <171020080903069744%any...@anywhere-anytime.com>,
Depends whether they mean "XXXAdultXXX" or simply adult oriented humour.
On the basis of muppet history I presume the latter.
The first muppets to really attract notice were on the first season
of SNL, and they were hilarious! Some poster here still uses the
signature line "I am the Mighty Favog..."

I wasn't talking about porn, just simple "adult" shows. "Adult oriented
humour" is often even worse than plain "adult" shows.
Plus, this new idea is not a "Muppet movie". It's just a puppet movie
by the Henson company. Another example is the Dark Crystal which isn't
a "Muppet movie".
