I was privileged to have exchanged e-mails with Larry Gelbart in the
past, and am distraught to learn of his death.

He did two recent interviews everyone here might want to track down:
One's a chapter in the just-published AND THE KICKER IS edited by Mike
Sacks (Writer's Digest Books), where he held forth on writing for Sid
Caesar and MASH (The interviews with other prominent comedy writers
are equally great, BTW). The other is a brief interview about A FUNNY
THING HAPPENED... in the current issue of The Sondheim Review on
newsstands now.

Thanks for the laughter, elsig.

My bad. My horrible.

That book's proper title, of course, is AND HERE'S THE KICKER.

(And Larry's interview runs from p. 321-335.)

About 25 years ago Larry G. appeared on one of Dick Cavett's cable
talk shows with (the late) Pat McCormick and (happily still with us)
David Lloyd to discuss TV comedy writing. One of the most memorable
talk show hours I've ever witnessed.
