I give it 2 and a half stars. It's worth watching, it's good without
being great. The producers made 2 choices, one good, one bad:
Good choice: In the original cartoon version the character sported a
voice that was so very precious that one suspected that he had a stash of
Judy Garland records at his bunkhouse. Brenden Fraser plays him as a doofus
but a doofus that is manly!!!
Bad choice: They set the movie in the present. For those who are under
the age of 45 or who are camp impaired, Dudley Do-right started out (40
years ago) as a segment on the Rocky & Bullwinkle Show. It was a parody
of silent films about mounties. Placing the movie in the present
undermines it's camp roots and makes the actions of Snidely K. Whiplash,
foolish, if not lame. The one saving thing about this choice was that it
allowed (playing themselves) Regis Philben & Kathy Lee Gifford.
Playing Dudley's main squeeze Nell Fenwick is Sarah
Jessica Parker. Also in the cast is Eric Idle of Monty Python fame. He
contributes to the movie'scomic luster. Ring in the newyear by popping
this video into your VCR!
