"?" Season 2 Episode 21
Lots of weird visual effects in this one. I'll post more later. But for
now, one I almost missed was near end of the episode, after Sawyer holds
Kate while she mourns.

Cut to Jack in the bathroom, cleaning up the blood from Libby's wound.
Jack is standing alone in front of the bathroom mirror.

To make this easier to understand the reflection error, go to the largest
mirror you have nearby, hold your arm up near the mirror, a foot or so
away.
Fix you eye on a mid point between your arm and the reflection of your
arm. Now move your arm towards the mirror and away from the mirror. Note
as your real arm moves towards the mirror glass, the arm reflection moves
towards the glass. Conversely, as your real arm moves away from the
mirror, the reflection also moves away from the glass.

Now take your arm down. LOL

This clip defies the laws of nature. As Jack moves towards the glass, the
reflection moves away.

Looks normal to me based on the camera's angle to Jack and mirror. He
move's inward, it changes the angle of reflection (of Jack's image) to
the camera lens making the reflection appear to move away from Jack.

You have too much time on your hands :)

What I find odd is that there is only one toothbrush ...

Excellent attention to detail...the producers have claimed everything has a
reason...

hmph...wow - I hadn't seen that...yes - when he moves towards the mirror,
the image moves back...
What does that mean?

The mirror is at an angle; what you are seeing is a move to the left,
not away. It's a side-step.

the first time I tried it...

My arms reflection moves away from the mirror as I move my arm towards
it....

seconds later, I see no reflection of myself....

Ill try again later...

I had time tonight to sit down and again look at this reflection of Jack.
I believe I was wrong in my first impression. The scene looks normal, and
as you point out , maybe a side step gives the illusion. I have looked at
the rest of that short scene, and can see nothing else out of the
ordinary...sorry for the false alarm :(

You need to have your eyes checked. There is nothing wrong with the scene.

Hi all, I'm new to this NG, but have been enjoying your discussions.
I wish I had found this group earlier in the season. I feel like I'm
showing up for a final in a class I haven't taken. Thank you for
sharing all your wonderful observations. Now, I'm going to have to buy
season 2 and go back to see everything again.
