"When The New People ended in 1970, it ended without any sort of
closure. The new people never made it off the island and viewers never
learned what happened to them."
And now we know. They became the Others. :)
"The final episode, broadcast January 12th, 1970, saw the survivors
arguing over whether or not they should try to signal a ship sighted
on the horizon. An earlier episode had involved several of the
students trying to build a raft to escape the island -- but they never
did."
That video showing the plane on the beach is really eerie. The
torches at night, the dead guy in a car, etc. Do you think Kate and
Tom's New Kids on the Block lunchbox / time capsule was a nod to the
show?
"The New People,
Starting from day one
And for each of them
Time has just begun"
S1E3 Jack: It doesn't matter, Kate, who we were... what we did before
this, before the crash. It doesn't really... three days ago we all
died. We should all be able to start over.
"The Other 48 Days" featured titles that displayed the days, too. Day
1, Day 2, and so on.

"Lying or seated back in the shadows were those who had chosen to
follow Bull into the hills and stay with him. Potter, who was made to
stand nearer the fire, could not make out their faces. He knew, in
general, who they were, however. They were the others."
Ha! So the others followed a guy named BULL? Sounds like
BenjaMINOTAUR Linus to me.

Also known as The Day of the Fish.
LOL, I can feel your excitement from here!
Darkufo had a 3rd season DVD clip titled
"The World Of the Others" in the DVD section.
It was very brief, maybe a 2 minute clip.
Unfortunately that clip has been removed.

FORTUNATELY....I got an (ahem) early release of disk 7
I will not post the video, out of respect for the Lozt Boyz
But as a teaser, I will post the complete audio...tomorrow
Tonight, I will post a little audio clip from disk 7, that tdciago, you
will love.

Wow! How bizarre that he would even make that suggestion. Why would
the Others show a brainwashing film, complete with English sentences,
to animals ... unless the "animals" were actually ...
;)
One of the phrases in the brainwashing film is "Everything changes."
From Ovid's "Metamorphoses," Bk XV:143-175 Pythagoras's
Teachings:Metempsychosis
"EVERYTHING CHANGES, nothing dies: the spirit wanders, arriving here
or there, and occupying whatever body it pleases, passing from a wild
beast into a human being, from our body into a beast, but is never
destroyed. As pliable WAX*, stamped with new designs, is no longer
what it was; does not keep the same form; but is still one and the
same; I teach that the soul is always the same, but migrates into
different forms."

He meant animals in the sense that you would call really fucked up
people "animals". He did not mean they were showing the brainwashing
film to livestock.
It is reputed that in Cosa Nostra, a consigliere is not simply an adviser;
he may be the second highest ranking member of a family, second only to
the Don.
As in many royal courts in history, the most powerful position must be
kept within the family and the
royal bloodline,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consigliere <-Cuse uses this word in
reference to Alpert
(This is reference to the complete audio of "The World of the Others" and
not just the small clip)
At the very least, there are many hints throughout the full audio, that
there is something different about the genetic make up of the others.
"It aired opposite the last quarter of Gunsmoke and Here's Lucy on CBS
and Rowan And Martin's Laugh-In on NBC."
No wonder no one saw it!

So that when the consiglieri knocks off the Don, (as is often the
case),
there is no bitterness about "outsiders".

Nope. This section is specifically about the Hydra station, and Damon
Lindelof makes a clear distinction between humans and animals.
"The Dharma Initiative was doing all these experiments on animals, so
is that room that Karl was in for humans, or what kind of animals were
they showing those films to? Like, what was really going on there?"
The complete sentence from the article is: " As in many royal courts
in history, the most powerful position must be kept within the family
and the royal bloodline, however, the second most powerful position is
often the adviser to the king, a position given to the most qualified
man for the job regardless of background."
So the consigliere did *not* have to be a family member.
OK, I was wrong about the quote but do you really think that they were
showing the films to animals?
OH Crap, have we been addicted to a 35 year old re-run? LOL

I think it's a very weird thing for Damon Lindelof to suggest, unless
there's something to it. I don't recall any fans discussing such a
possibility, because maybe everyone was missing the obvious -- that
Room 23 was part of Hydra, which was a *zoological* station. It seems
an unlikely place to conduct human brainwashing.
My theory about the show is that the characters parallel figures from
Greek mythology. I said months ago that I thought the Others
represented humans who had been transformed into animals in those
myths. In the brainwashing film, we saw a phrase that appears in
Ovid's "Metamorphoses": "Everything changes." The title
"Metamorphoses," in itself, refers to such changes. I suggested,
among other things, that Danny Pickett represented Picus, who was
changed into a woodpecker, and that Bea Klugh represented Arachne, who
was changed into a spider. Both stories appear in "Metamorphoses." I
also said that Juliet represents Circe, who was famous for her
knowledge of drugs and changing humans into animals. Where did we
first meet drug-expert Juliet? At a zoological station, on its own
island. Circe had her own island, too, where she turned Odysseus' men
into swine.
There have been various hints about animals for quite awhile now.
Think of Sawyer and the boar. Think of the Widmore Construction sign
shown at the Battersea Power Station, famous for its appearance on
Pink Floyd's "Animals" album. Think of Nadia the cat, with the same
name as Nadia, Sayid's love, and Nadia Comaneci. Think of all the
rabbit references. Think of Juliet impregnating a male field mouse
through drug therapy, and then doing the same for her sister Rachel
(whose name means "sheep"). Think of Joop the orangutan. Think of
the Losties being held in animal enclosures. Think of Sawyer and the
fish biscuits. Think of Kate's horse.
And then there was some dialogue which I believe was meant to be
clues. Michael, Charlie, and Ana-Lucia talk about the Others as
"animals," using the definition that you mentioned (brutish human
beings). At least, that's the definition we were *supposed* to think
of from their lines:
S2E6 Ana-Lucia: They're smart, and they're animals, and they could be
anywhere at any time. Now we're moving through the jungle... *their*
jungle, just so you can save your little hick friend over here.
S2E20 Michael: They're animals. I've seen these people and they are...
animals.
S1E15 Charlie (speaking about Ethan): I wasn't going to let that
animal anywhere near her again. Ever.
If those are clues, then they're the best kind: the ones that are
hidden in plain sight. We automatically assume that Ana-Lucia,
Michael, and Charlie are not speaking literally. But maybe they are.

And another. This one on EW and posted October 2004...about a month after
the Lost pilot episode:
'I wish we had known about it before,'' says Damon Lindelof, exec producer
of Lost, ''so we could've changed Charlie's [Dominic Monaghan] band name
to the New People instead of Driveshaft.'
I don't mean to disparage all the effort you put into this, and you
rare an entertaining poster. But the truth is, it really does read
like something you could do with any topic you wanted. It is a little
like numerology to me in that the show is so rich in detail, and at
the same time so vague in specifics, that you can back up almost any
theory you want to with a mountain of dialogue from the show. For
example if someone had the time and inclination they could come up
with a similar and fairly elaborate theory, backed up with quotes from
the show, that the Others are really cars that have taken on human
characteristics like Herbie the Love Bug.
If your theory holds up I will gladly apologize to you.
Couple quick thoughts before "the big meal"
Scott Jackson was murdered by an unseen other, that according to the
lost-a-ways, had to come to the beach via the ocean.
http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Scott_Jackson
It has never been determined who killed Scott.
"The New People" "the crabs" creatures that paralyze then kill, like the
crabs in Stephen King's,'The Dark Tower' series that remove a couple of
Roland's fingers and begin his struggle through the beach portal for
antibiotics.
Season 2 DVD Connections, This post is over a year old
http://users.newblog.com/thinbluemime/?post_id=11642
Michael Emerson some time ago did an interview where he implied the others
are different genetically.
I have been waiting patiently for 2 years for Lost to reveal some clear
evidence of mutated life. Maybe season 4? LOL
I can remember watching Rowan And Martin's Laugh-In for about 15 minutes and
then switching over.
I remember the first episode where there was a plane flying over, but a
white kid didn't want the black kid to be rescue
so he put out the smoke signal. Someone bitched slapped him and said you do
realise you just stopped yourself from being rescue too?
Another great episode was when they found marijuana seeds and decided to
grow them. Someone didn't want drugs to be in the community and I remeber
that kid grabbing the plant in front of everyone and destroying it.
There was also a NEW PEOPLE comicbook.
