I guess they're pretty blunt about the unhealthy contents of their
food... or is this a clue or a joke?
Just a way of saying Oreos without saying Oreos.
Jed
I think this was a too clever inside joke:
Since 2003, there has been a famous class-action lawsuit accusing Kraft
Foods (the parent company of Nabisco) of using hydrogenated oils in the
manufacture of Oreo cookies. In January 2006, the FDA issued a new
ruling requiring food manufacturers to state their use of hydrogenated
oils on the package. Rather than have to admit on every package that
Oreos contain hydrogenated oils, Kraft has reformulated Oreos to not use
hydrogenated oils and those should start showing up in supermarkets soon.

So this DHARMA cookie package was a bow to the new FDA rule (even though
it screws up the timeline). :-)

Ok, maybe the power source reference was vague.......Sawyer was
SPLITTING HYDROGENated cookies
the box of which sat under a tin can that resembled a nuclear reactor dome
( You gotta think outside the box....outside the cookie box) :P

Like DHARMA, the Hydrox Initiative ended years ago.

Actually these days fully hydrogenated is considered more healthful
than partially hydrogenated.
"Stars spend about 90% of their lifetime fusing hydrogen to produce
helium in high-temperature and high-pressure reactions near the core."
Everything is in there for a reason.

It's *partially* hydrogenated oils that are (currently)
considered unhealthy. These are called "trans fats."
Fully hydrogenated oils are not trans fats. So the cookies
Sawyer is eating presumably do not contain trans fats. It's
just the opposite of what you wrote. Not that cookies loaded
with fully hydrogenated oils are much healthier than those
loaded with partially hydrogenated ones.

But you can't "split" hydrogen! It's a single proton
surrounded by a single electron! Perhaps this is a hint
about something Dharma is trying to do on the island?
A nuclear test involving *sub* atomic particles, quarks,
gluons, neutrinos, etc.
