LOS ANGELES, Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Film Institute (AFI) today
announced the official selections of AFI AWARDS 2005, AFI's almanac which
records the year's most outstanding achievements in film and television, as
well as significant moments in the world of the moving image.
AFI AWARDS is the only form of national recognition that honors the film and
television creative ensemble as a whole-those people in front of and behind
the camera-acknowledging the collaborative nature of film and television.
Unlike any other film or television award currently given, the AFI AWARDS
2005 selections were made through AFI's unique 13-person jury process in
which scholars, artists, critics and AFI trustees discuss, debate and
determine the most outstanding achievements of the year, as well as provide
a detailed rationale for each selection. Two AFI juries-one for motion
pictures and one for television-convened in Los Angeles for two days of
deliberation. The jurors have remained confidential until today. (Complete
list is below.)
AFI will honor the creative ensembles for each of the honorees at a luncheon
on Friday, January 13, 2006, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles,
California. The jury rationales for each selection will be revealed at this
event.
"AFI is proud to honor these 20 collaborative teams. As the institute
recognizes and celebrates excellence across the century, these honorees will
be part of the record that documents America's enduring cultural legacy,"
commented Jean Picker Firstenberg, AFI's Director and CEO.
The honorees are listed below in alphabetical order:

And Grey's Anatomy is crap.
-Peck
Well, it was great in the first year but then the network execs made the
producers "dumb it down" and it became just, silly. Too bad; the
concept was very good.

The best one out there IMO is "The War At Home."
Arrested Development was one of the 10 television honorees in both 2003 and
2004.

No. The War At Home is mean, racist, and Michael Rapaport is not funny. The
only reason this show gets ratings is because the daughter is super hot.
The War At Home sucks.
Hear that sound ? Thats any credibility you had shooting away
May 14, 1998! That was the end my friend. ;-)
Is this a joke?
Fox putting a show like this that so insults your intelligence between
the Simpsons and Family Guy forced me to figure out how the use the VCR.
If you don't watch these shows... yer a horses ass and nobody but nobody
would say otherwise other than a dumb ass like you for not watching these
shows!
SCRUBS was robbed! Trade SLEEPER CELL for SCRUBS.

> VERONICA MARS
I'm glad this show is finally getting recognition.
I started following it last season using bittorrent and kept up today
this year.
It's one of the best written, and most fascinating plots on tv.
Its not racist... its making fun of a racist/judgmental guy. Jus
tlike "All In the Family."
Oh, and Desperate Housewives is actually funny? Or Grey's Anatomy?
Please.
And to say "The best one out there is..." does NOT mean "The best show
EVER is..."
So does that mean you believe that the Simpsons and Family Guy are
highly intellectual pieces of programming?
Fox has three shows in a row (Simpsons, War At Home, and Family Guy)
where the father figure is conservative and prejudiced, and in each on,
that same father figure is portrayed as a moron.
What's different between the three?
--I agree, and I'm very glad Veronica Mars is getting recognition from
AFI. Besides Veronica Mars, the only one from their TV list that I
watch is "Lost," though. I don't understand why some of those shows
are on the list and "Desperate Housewives" isn't. It deserves to be.
I don't expect everybody to share my tastes, but if AFI liked Veronica
Mars then I should think it would stand to reason that there should be
more congruence between AFI and me.
I have no problem with their list of movies (though I haven't seen all
the ones on the list), but "The Ice Harvest" should have been included.
I loved that movie. I also loved "Crash" and "Syriana." Whoever
posted dismissively about "Syriana" needs to explain himself. It was
an excellent movie.

Not this season DH doesn't.

SYRIANA's gotten mixed reviews.

--Why would you say that? DH is as good as ever this season.

RWG (though I personally wouldn't consider appx 80% positive reviews as
being "mixed")

Just saw the film yesterday - thought it was great.
Here is an example of a RottenTomatoes positive (over 75% were positive)
and a negative. So you judge the difference...
(1) "Mr. Gaghan doesn't insult our intelligence, but he demands our
attention. If you're up to those demands, you'll be rewarded."
-Philip Wuntch, DALLAS MORNING NEWS <and that's from oil country>
(2) "It's hard to get passionately swept away by a movie when you're
struggling continually to figure out who's doing what to whom and why."
-Ruthe Stein, SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE <poor Ruthie, I'll explain to her>
Confusing plot, mixed stance on the issues, not as good as TRAFFIC.
