Except in close ups during the broadcast the letter
didn't look like that, did it? I thought it looked
like it was written with a ballpoint pen.

There are multiple copies of Sawyer's letter used for props, and for the
charity auction this (?) year.

The letter attached to this posting came from LOST Magazine Issue #26, and
may not be canon. Check lostpedia for details, but it does not appear to
me, at a glance, to be the original.
http://finaldestinationlost.blogspot.com/2010/01/lost-magazin-26.html

A fundamental task in nearly all time management and goal setting seminars
includes writing down goals.
NOT just to mentally make a list, but WRITE the list to reinforce the
desired goal or outcome.

Eight year old James intuitively followed a successful goal setting
procedure by commiting his goal to paper and reviewing it periodically to
reinforce the desired goal. He did this his whole life. He repeated this
process untill he achieved his desired goal.

Brilliant!

Except James' 8 year old emotional mind, set a goal for his adult mind and
body, until James became Sawyer.

As adults, we all have tapes playing in our heads. It is a wise adult that
listens closely to the tapes, and decides with adult maturity whether the
tapes that are playing are the ones we need to be hearing. Ocassionally, a
professional might be needed to help us hear and change the tapes.

If the music is too loud, and it gives you a headache, it might be time to
change the tape, LOL
