Chris Noth in new CBS show "The Good Wife"

and Christine Baranski, airs at 10 p.m. Tuesday nights.
The series focuses on a wife and mother (Margulies) forced to restart
a career in law that she gave up 13 years ago to start a family. The
reason? Her husband (Noth) goes to jail on political corruption
charges with a sex scandal tossed on top.

That's all I need to know to give this a shot <g>. Don't care so much
about Margulies, but I'm definitely a fan of Noth, Charles and
Baranski. Fall 2009 can't arrive too quickly!
BTW, how are people liking Jeff Goldblum in CI? After his second CI
episode, I've decided that I like him.

I've been a JB fan for years. I think he brings the right amount of

The first time my wife and I saw Jeff was not in DEATH WISH, but in an
off-Broadway show on West 57th St, near Central Park, called of all things
"El Garde De Coca Cola" a very funny show. It was also done as an HBO
special, bu they mucked it up.

I don't exactly see him as kooky but I get what you're saying. These
CI guys always seem to have some kind of eccentric quality about them
that make them such good solvers of crime. Actually the other day I
was just wondering why it's always the male detective who's this way,
and never the female. Is it because the audience won't find that kind
of pairing acceptable?

Yeah! I mostly started liking him in JURASSIC PARK, of all things. I
can't recall the first time I saw him onscreen either. Did you see him
in the shortlived tv series RAINES? I liked the character he played
there, too.

I have a vague memorie of that. The title is familiar, anyway.
I didn't see the one Dawnie mentioned, though to be honest that sounds
familar too. TV: garbage in, garbage forgotten. Though I don't think JG
could do garbage if he tried.

Logan's first partner was quirky, can't remember her name. I
certainly miss Chris Noth, the guy was with the show from the very
beginning, and provided the "street cop" element to CI. The best
pairing was of course Briscoe/Logan!

Not true! Quite the opposite.Tenspeed and Brownshoe was my favorite
series during it's sadly all to brief run.It was one of the first things
I ever watched Jeff Goldblum in. His seriocomic performance is a
triumph .Probable my all-time fav of all his roles. The erstwhile
stockbroker turned Private eye wannn be. Ben Vereen was great fun too.
My opinion not good enough? Don't take just my word for it. Series
creator and writer of most of the episodes Steven J. Cannell of Rockford
File fame .(The other writers were also Rockford alums.Tenspeed was very
much in that vain) and now acclaimed best selling author (ironic if your
a Tenspeed fan?) won a writers guild award for long form tv drama (the
pilot) . That script was also up for an Emmy. The series was nominated
for an Edger award as well.
Brownshoe too
wasn't garbage. Critics called it "the best new show on ". "Charismatic
and compelling", "smart and stylish"."well-crafted","intriguing and
involving' ,"amusing" ,"snappy" ,"refreshing ","engaging" "full of
talent" "dry sense of humor" "a fresh take" and "flashes of
brilliance". "It deserves a renewal and a
firm spot on NBC."

Anyway Critics aren't the ones who keep shows on, viewers do

Cannell's scripts "smart and witty". I reiterate. Mr. Cannell won a
writers guide award for the pilot script. An award given by other
writers. Recently
New York magazine called Tenspeed " An extremely charming series.
Criminally over looked and underwatched at the time."
The TV critic for the NYT called it "smart" and the NY Daily news
called it "delightful" The web site Thrilling
Detectives calls it "A class act,clever dialogue and slightly loopy
plots"
The book The Best Crime and Detective TV: The Critics Choice has a
chapter on it as one of the best. "A beautifully written labor of love.
Classic Cannell even more than Rockford. Tv Detectives another
book on the genera said The best ABC had to offer. "Greatly
appreciated,well-received effort. An obvious labor of love. Ably
produced with large doses of wit and action."
The book Cult TV included it in it's under ground cult section.
""Extraordinary talent" ."It's a light det. spoof that really should
have made it." Sounds like your in the minority.

out of 115 programs. So instead of ordering more episodes the dullards
running NBC quickly banished it to there perpetually low-rated Friday
night line-up. Well everything these days is low-rated on NBC with a
very few exception. NBC just celebrated the dubious distinction being in
fourth place . Last of all the networks for a five years in a row.
Friday nights are where NBC dumps series they for whatever reason don't
care about. . NBC did next to nothing promoting it Despite the shabby
treatment.Variety the show biz bible said it did the best of it's
mid-season shows. Pointing out it always did better in the ratings then
it's lead in programs. At one point Raines all but doubled it's viewer
numbers from it's lead in. Not a small feat considering the ratings hole
it had to climb out of. Verity thought NBC should keep it on and nurture
it. Instead they prematurely pulled the plug. So they could put such
high quality entertainment as The Apprentice, American Gladiators, Help
I'm a Celebrity et cetera et cetera on. Here's another curious thing The
Hollywood Reporter critic who liked the series said "There's something
else that's odd about Raines.He would seem to be more at home on NBC's
corporate cousin USA Net along side other quirky detectives such as Monk
or Psych... Moving the series to a potentially lethal slot at Fridays
note to NBC/Universal execs: USA net would be the perfect safety net
for a charismatic and compelling detective series." That baffles me too.
Why didn't Universal/NBC originally put it on USA? It would still be
in production . Or move it there.Just as they did with CI USA's big hit
Monk is ceasing production after this season. The network could use a
new "defective detective" Jeff Goldblum's snarky and introspective
Lt.Michael Raines with his malfunctioning imagination causing figments
based on murder victims for sidekicks. Raines would have been an
excellent addition to USA's line-up.

nifty premise. A dry delightful sense of humor and a playful
imagination. An intriguing and ingenious idea foe a crime show. Starring
a wonderful actor in the lead doing a splendid job as usual . A series
with a lot of potential .Which would have only gotten better if
Universal had let it. Raines would have been a great fit on the USA
network.
