Two new eps back to back. Some fascinating stuff. I really enjoyed
these.
In the first one...
First we get what seems like simply more info about Van Buren, but it
turns into a little bit of a commentary on medical marijuana. And the
message delivered by her superior with a note where she can purchase
medical marijuana? I was floored. I don't think we would have seen
this even perhaps two years ago. But here it is in all its glory.
Along with this is a little bit of a vision of the so called (ok, I
have a unusual view of these things) illegal drug trade.
There were a few interesting legal issues here. As has been pointed
out in another thread, the evidence got tossed. But I thought the
issues about the perpetrator who eventually turned for the state were
more interesting. Particularly issues of his legal counsel.
Interesting to see Rubirosa's background get used in this story. Both
for offering the young perpetrator comfort food in an attempt to break
him down, and her old boy friend providing some help with the music.
I thought the art angle for laundering the money was interesting, but
perhaps a bit tricky. I would've liked to learn more about the
mechanics of how that worked. Cash is king!
But did I hear one of the detectives say that the decorator wasn't a
big player? With all that cash? And all those paintings? What's a
big player then? And whatever happened to our chiropractor? I think
he may have known a little bit more about the stuff she was selling
than he let on.
I think the second ep was related to the first.
A legal drug this time. All about a cancer drug. Maybe of interest to
Van Buren? And Jack's little speech at the end about us not getting a
health care bill? I detect a bit of a more liberal attitude on the
part of the writers.
I don't recall seeing a disclaimer for this show, but I suspect
(suspect? that's pretty weaselly of me, since it was obvious) it is
based on the Diane Schuler case. So I thought it was interesting that
the detectives in the show had some pictures of the woman driving her
van. Diane Schuler's route took her past lots of cameras. You can
see them on the web. I don't know, but I suspect that these cameras
are monitored by LEOs. And yet, DS was able to drive past them and
not raise suspicion that she was drunk, because if she had raised that
suspicion I think it's likely she would have been pulled over. The
police now have those patrol cars that are radio equipped so they
could have been called to do it. From what I hear the roads she drove
are patrolled.I think it strange she wasn't pulled over. But perhaps
I'm wrong and those cameras aren't monitored and are simply placed by
the road for the entertainment value they might provide on the web.. I
wonder if they record what is photographed. If they do, there would
be a record of DS' s trip south. And yet, I haven't seen any pictures
of her trip in the media. I think that's strange. NB, I am not
making any claims about what happened to DS because I don't know what
happened. I simply think that there are some open questions about the
events that led to her death that I would like to hear answers to.
Back to the show. Interesting that the whistle blower reward money
might lead to this. It's all about the unintended consequences. And
there was quite a bit about money in this one. The $1000 per day for
the meds. Jack giving back the money he got for a campaign
contribution. Personally, I think it's wishful thinking to believe or
insinuate that money can be taken out of the equation. But heck,
unicorns and rainbows for everyone!
How much do you think Van Buren is thinking a day of her life is
worth. $1000? More? Less? And who'll pay for it?
Plus two shows without jury verdicts.
Theget
You've got the quality of life vs the quantity of life issue.
Like my mom died suddenly at age 56 while my dad lingered for several
months dying at age 81.
Like the night before Caesar was murdered he went to a dinner party and
one of the topics of conversation was how would you like to die and when
it came his turn he said "suddenly".
Does that apply to aborting fetuses with deformities too?
