Ben Affleck, who’s hosting “Saturday Night Live” this week, was
rehearsing a skit this afternoon mocking Keith Olbermann when Olbermann
himself got past security to watch, according to a source with knowledge
of the incident.

A source described the skit as “savage,” in portraying Olbermann as a
deranged person living at home with his mother. Affleck, said a source,
became uneasy with Olbermann in attendance at the 3 p.m., closed-set
rehearsal.

But Olbermann, through a spokesman, was complimentary on his first time
being mocked on "SNL" — a position his MSNBC colleague Chris Matthews
has been in over the years.

“I’m not Sarah Palin,” Olbermann said. “I know how valuable it is to me.
And it’s funny."

John McCain is expected to be on tomorrow night, but there’s no word if
he’s involved at all in this skit.

An SNL representative declined to comment.

It is simply breathtaking to watch the glee and abandon with which
the liberal media and the Angry Left have been attempting to turn
our military victory in Iraq into a second Vietnam quagmire. Too bad
for them, it's failing.

That's the great thing about KO, he knows how to laugh at himself!

On his show Friday he mentioned it and how he was invited to stop by
during rehearsal. He seemed very pleased with it.

I watched it and thought it was funny, too. It was satire. It nailed
Keith on his histrionics. It wasn't mean, it was cute. And I LIKE
Olbermann.

Yes, a deranged mass-murderer is an exact point of comparison to a
progressive tv commentator.
Yes indeed--if you're MCCAIN IN THE MEMBRANE!

I guess Marilyn Manson's an aquired taste; I found quite a few of

Reports are KO himself liked it. It's easy to see why, it was dead
on Countdown's motions (loved the Special Comment camera angles!), and
not *too* harsh; at least to the point where the ridicule is clearly
absurdist (as a cat ownee, I approve!)!

Being parodied on SNL, *and* MAD Magazine (three page article
deconstructing Countdown on the November 2008 issue), sounds like the
ultimate sign someone's made it!

Olberman is my hero. And yes the guy certainly gets over the top sometimes.
I thought Affleck did a great job. And the writing was spot on. It was
funny, damn it.

Nah, you've just walked in on the middle of a long-running shtick of
Fred's regading Olberman, dating back to his surprisingly negative
"as himself" appearance on NBC's one-season wonder "Surface" a
couple of years ago.
