Beer was an inspired choice for secret ingredient, I thought. I
noticed that Kevin Brauch and Alton Brown had failed to do their
homework. Brauch said that hefeweizen was a "Belgian style" of beer
while it is German; and Alton Brown kept implying that the Brooklyn
Black Chocolate Stout derives its sweetness "from the chocolate" when
no chocolate is added to the beer (its somewhat chocolatey taste is
from its dark malt) -- an embarrassing blunder given that the beer's
brewer, Garret Oliver, was one of the evening's judges.

I was surprised that Flay lost this time. His dishes looked a lot
better than the challenger's, and the judges seemed to enjoy them a
lot more.
