Into the home stretch...

7-18 Hay Bale Maze

Logan and Doyle are in the kitchen. Paris is upset because Logan
used the milk she wanted for the cereal. Rory is nervously getting
ready for an interview with a paper in Providence.

(Logan's internet deal went sour at the end of episode 7-15. At
first he avoided the situation and returned to hanging out with
Colin and Finn. Finally, in episode 7-17 he decided to quit his
father's company. He's currently staying with Rory because his
former apartment actually belonged to the company.)

April is visiting Luke for the Spring Fling Festival. She brought
lots of books (and a bracelet for Luke). April admits that New
Mexico "isn't so terrible."

Rory calls Lorelai from the train. She says the interview went
well and wants to make sure that it's OK if she brings Logan.
Lorelai says it's fine. Rory and Logan arrive at Lorelai's. Rory
gives Logan a tour of the town and they stop at Luke's diner. The
hay bale maze goes all the way up to the diner window. Luke goes
out and argues with Taylor as Rory and Logan watch.

Sookie and Lorelai talk about Logan. Sookie says that Lorelai has
a tone of "repressed judgement."

Town meeting. Taylor explains that the entire festival budget has
been allocated to the hay bale maze. The attendees are not
pleased.

Lorelai returns home and finds Logan making paella. Rory gets a
phone call--she got the Providence job and needs to decide by
Monday. Later that night, Rory is making a pro-con list. Logan
tells her she needs to sleep and goes to get a drink of water.
Lorelai is there to get some pie. They chat and talk through some
of Lorelai's concerns.

The hay bale maze turns out to be a big hit. Logan tells Rory not
to factor him in, he doesn't know what he'll be doing then so she
should do what she wants and maybe he'll factor her in. Rory
decides she wants to go for the Reston fellowship at the New York
Times, instead of accepting the Providence job.

(One of Taylor's "bright ideas" actually worked. He does have good
ideas every now and then.)

Lorelai is walking through the maze and sees Luke. Lorelai
apologizes for sleeping with Christopher the night they broke up.
Luke apologizes for thinking he had to fix everything in his
relationship with April before he could be with Lorelai. He says
that he thinks he "kind of used April to push you away." Lorelai
says that she needs to find her way out of the maze. Luke tells
her that she's "really close" and gives her directions.

(And Luke and Lorelai take a major step toward truly repairing
their friendship. And there's a certain symbolism to Lorelai being
almost out of the maze.)

7-20 Lorelai? Lorelai?

Rory dreams that she's at Chilton and asked to leave, then that she
goes home and Lorelai leaves for Hawaii, then that she's the
"charity case" of Paris and Doyle.

Friday Night dinner. Emily and Richard announce that they've
bought an apartment in Manhattan that Rory can use. Rory admits
that she didn't get the Reston fellowship (she found out at the end
of the episode 7-19). Lorelai is a little concerned that Rory
didn't tell her.

Lorelai enters the diner and sees Luke wearing the cap she gave
him. Lorelai gives Luke some advice on the boat trip he's planning
with April. Later, she tells Sookie about the cap and that she
wants to make a return gesture.

Meanwhile, Rory gets another rejection letter and calls the
Providence paper to find that the job she turned down has been
filled.

Lorelai returns home and finds Rory hiding under the covers. Rory
says she "tanked" a final and tells her about the rejections. Rory
feels like she disappointed everyone. Lorelai tells Rory that "you
could never disappoint me". Lorelai plans activities to cheer up
Rory, starting with mac and cheese at Luke's diner. Lorelai tells
Luke that she and Rory are going to catch Babette and Patty's act
at the karaoke bar. Shortly afterwards, Lorelai and Rory leave to
go shopping.

(Mini-meltdown from Rory. However, she does react better than she
did at the end of Season 5. And she recovers much more quickly.)

April calls Luke and tells him that she got in to the Metropolitan
Museum science camp. Unfortunately it's during the planned boat
trip. Luke says that they can do the boat trip next summer.

Meanwhile, Zach has gotten an offer to fill in as guitarist for a
band's tour and says that Lane can go with him on the tour bus.
Lane is excited, but eventually realizes that she can't go on tour.
Zach tells her that he won't go either but Lane says that he should
still go.

Rory talks Lorelai into singing at the karaoke bar. Lorelai sings
"I Will Always Love You". Which turns into a song to Luke when
Luke walks in. Rory, Luke, and a substantial proportion of the
audience all notice this.

The next morning, Rory is visibly more cheerful. She tells Lorelai
that she's going back to Yale and she really feels better. Rory
says "sometimes you just have to let your feelings out." Lorelai
agrees, but seems to be wondering if that was true in her own case.

Luke and Zach are at the diner. Zach found Luke's cap. Luke says
that "hanging around here this summer might not be so bad."
(Obviously thinking about Lorelai.) Luke decides to keep wearing
the cap Lorelai gave him.

Lorelai at home. Logan knocks on the door. He tells her that he's
been offered a partnership in an internet company in Palo Alto. He
asks Lorelai for permission to ask Rory to marry him. And we close
on Lorelai looking stunned as Logan asks (in voiceover) "Lorelai?
Lorelai?"

Logan and Paris are almost as much fun as pro wrestling interviews.

I never caught that, but thinking back on it, you're exactly right.
