Alexis Bledel Cast In "The Conspirator"
October 16, 2009 by Maria Diaz
It's a good week to be a Gilmore; not only is Lauren Graham officially on a
network drama, but Alexis has been cast in a new Robert Redford movie, " The
Conspirator."
Her co-stars include Evan Rachel Wood, James McEvoy and Kevin KIine.
Shooting already started in Georgia this week, which means Alexis went
straight from Montreal (where she was shooting The Kate Logan Affair) back
to the States. Alexis will play Catherine Morgan, the wife to James McEvoy's
character Frederick Aiken. The film is a period piece about the aftermath of
Abraham Lincoln's assassination.
And in even more good news for Alexis: Roadside Attractions has bought the
distribution rights for "The Good Guy." In this film, Alexis plays Beth, a
New York woman who gets involved in a love triangle. The film premiered
earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival.
[ I'm glad she's working with some big-named stars, but the busier
she is (as well as Lauren) the less likely we'll ever see the GG movie.]

Wait! I just read a Lauren Graham interview (with Ausiello) where she
said the movie has been made and will be released soon.
Are you saying she spoke in error?
... I believe her tongue was firmly planted in her cheek, with a pound of
salt.
"As a bonus, Graham's new gig -- which places her in a large
ensemble cast featuring PK, EC, and CTN -- should (at least temporarily) put
to rest the rumors of a possible GG movie. 'It's already in the can,' she
deadpans. 'It's coming soon to a theater near you.' Now *that's* our
Lorelai."

It was Lauren/Lorelai's patented brand of sarcasm.

Also we'll get a Gilmore Girls movie after the second Serenity movie
we were promised.

Ausiello Files EW Weekly 12-23-09
Inside Lauren Graham's surprising TV come back.
Let's get this out of the way from the start: Lauren Graham is NOT playing
Lorelai Gilmore on NBC's upcoming drama "Parenthood." Yes, her character,
Sarah, is a single mom. Yes, she has a complicated relationship with her
parents. And yes, as Graham puts it, they "both wear jeans." But that's
where the similarities end. "For [seven] years, people would come up to me
and say, 'I wish my mom was just like Lorelai,' " says Graham. "That's not
this character. She's not perfect. {{Like Lorelai was?}} She's struggling,
and that's what I'm drawn to."
Graham's hiring caps a torturous casting process that began when "ER" vet
Maura Tierney -- who originated the Sarah role in the "Parenthood" pilot --
bowed out to undergo treatment for breast cancer. The part was then offered
to Helen Hunt, but the deal fell apart. {{She wanted too much money?}}
Graham had some reservations herself about jumping into another hour-long
series commitment after spending the past three years as a free agent. "I
did a
Broadway show, three movies.... I [enjoyed] working freelance like that,"
says the actress, who reports to the "Parenthood" set next month (the show
debuts in March after the Olympics). "But then this was put in front of me,
and it was something I really wanted to do."
As a bonus, Graham's new gig -- which places her in a large ensemble cast
featuring Peter Krause, Erika Christensen, and Craig T. Nelson {{he's the
only one I know}} -- should (at least temporarily) put to rest the rumors of
a possible "Gilmore Girls" movie. "It's already in the can," She deadpans.
"It's coming soon to a theater near you." Now THAT's our Lorelai.
There is a picture of Lauren and she looks about 17!

Daisy Duke's?

Is Parenthood supposed to be tv spinoff of the movie?

I have to wonder if this was a good PR move. I'm not a MT fan but
she has breat cancer, but I have to wonder if the wise PR move would
have been to put the show on hiatus or do something to allow
MT to do the show when she is able.
I know the whole "the show must go on" thing but the
PR from the network showing some compassion for MT would
go a long way in the PR department.
My understanding is the show was suppoed to run this fall,
it was already pushed back to midseason replacement,
why hold it until MT is up to doing the role?
The good PR with women who have breast cancer would be
immense.
Is the Gilmore Girls movie really in the can? If so
when will it air?

Not a spin-off, an adaptation.

They did. The show was originally delayed until midseason and
production of Mercy was accelerated so that it could take the show's
place in September.
However, NBC's production slate sucks so badly, with Southland being
pre-cancelled due to content issues, Mercy sucking and Heroes having
absolutely no traction (and reportedly, Trauma's costs despite its
overall good critical reception -- they're going to try to have
Parenthood up as soon as they can.
However, Chuck has been filming since September and is rumored to
possibly join the schedule as early as the end of this month or early
next month. Given Parenthood's late filming start, that would put it
no better than second in line to fill any open timeslots that come
along.
>The good PR with women who have breast cancer would be
>immense.
Of course it would -- but NBC already accomplished that by delaying
the show in the first place. IMO, their decision to recast her role
and start up the filming much sooner than what was going to be their
new start date indicates to me that not only is NBC's schedule
hurting, it's likely that Tierney's doctors couldn't give them as
clear-cut a recovery timeline as they needed in order to make sure
that everyone on the show still had jobs.
Yes, I do think that NBC started its production back up again strongly
indicates that Tierney's got a tougher battle ahead of her than they
originally expected. Otherwise, I think that Ron Howard (Executive
Producer of the show and director of the movie) and Jason Katims & Co.
(the showrunner and staff for the new series) would have been able to
persuade NBC to not order 'em to start up.
>Is the Gilmore Girls movie really in the can? If so
>when will it air?
She was being sarcastic! Honest! And I say this as someone who, like
Ausiello, wants a Gg movie *now.* Ausiello *always* asks this
question of Graham, Scott Patterson, Alexis Blededl and Amy
Sherman-Palladino whenever he interviews them. It's Ausiello showing
real continued interest in getting a reunion movie (I say: Real Series
Finale) done while sort of turning it into a running joke that he's
*always* going to ask about it.

It's possilbe Maura realized she wasn't going to be available any
time soon and just told them to recast the role.
