Used to watch GH in the 70's so familiar with some of the characters. Switched to it now that they cancelled OLTL. Love seeing my old friends included with the 70's group. And yes Starr's acting leaves a lot to be desired. Ever since I started with GH I noticed how easily everyone tears up. Once in a while is tolerable but enough is enough. You will learn to like Todd, Tea and John. Starr and McBain's wife Natalie need to stay in Llanview.

Sam's the best crier. Most of us prefer her when she's not crying all the time. The GH writers, over the last 10 years or so, have eschewed strong, vibrant women in favor of clingy, weepy ones. That's one reason I'm so glad Anna is back. (Her tears are okay.)She'll be a force to reckon with once there's a bit of distance from Robin's death.

I thought that both AMC and OLTL were matriarchal at their hearts. But
GH has definitely been patriarchal since Sonny was thrust front and
center - and maybe even before that.

I can't remember a GH equivalent to the Kane women or the Lord/Cramer women.

The Quartermaines would be the closest. Monica in her day was quite good and Tracy has always been pretty tough. I miss Leslie Weber but still enjoy all the characters from the early 80's still on the show. Why did they kill off Allen Quartermaine??

I was going to respond that Monica and Leslie were the closest counterparts to the Kane and Lord/Cramer women. I guess before them there was Audrey Hardy and Jessie Brewer. Then there was Anna. In fact, now that I think about it, there were always strong women on GH until St. Sonny took over. <sigh>

There have been individual strong women on GH. But it was not the vibe
that AMC had with Erica hugging her daughters as they gazed in the
mirror on a wedding day and invoking Mona. Or, Dorian jutting her chin
out and bringing, mother, daughter, granddaughter, niece altogether and
reminding them there was no force on Earth that could stop the Cramer
women.

There's been very little of that multi-generational female strength on
GH. Maybe some with Anna and Robin. Or Leslie and Laura. But it seldom
has been a central theme in all the years I've been watching.
