In Liz's case, never, I guess. If not the first time you sleep with your
best friend's husband, then perhaps the first time you cheat on your
husband? Or maybe the dozenth time you sleep with his brother? No, for her
it's always a "mistake" while Carly, Sam, Gia, Rebecca, or whatever other
woman she hates this week is "a liar," a "slut", a "cheat" or a "whore." In
Liz's case, it's always excusable but for anyone else there's never an
excuse.
One night stands seem to be a pattern for Liz, as is cheating. Someone
proposes? Sleep with his brother! Afraid you might be tempted to go back
to your ex? Sleep with your best friend's husband. It's excusable, of
course, because your best friend is cheating ON her husband. And because
you're "the sweetheart of Port Charles."
So at what point have you accumulated enough "mistakes" that you're no
longer a heroine and become a liar, a cheater or a slut instead? How many
excuses can you make for accepting one man's marriage proposal while
continuing to sleep with his brother or for marrying someone while carrying
someone else's child? When does it cease to be about "protecting Lucky's
feelings" and start to be about covering up so you don't have to face the
music or take the consequences for your actions?
If the show stopped TELLING us Liz was "the sweetheart of Port Charles", it
would be perfectly obvious that she's evil.
And then I might actually be able to stomach her.
