During the second "pricing for a car deal" they jump from MOnty having fun
throwing Footballs with another trader, right in to the first product

And speeded up every time it replayed.

To their credit, the 3AM re-airing, while probably sped up in some spots, did
have the car plug and the beginning of the pricing deal intact.

And they didn't go into a loop situation there also, did they?

Anyway, that's not the only time they've screwed up this week -- on Monday's
episode of Combs Feud, the split-screen promo (which was for Russian Roulette)
that was to run during the credits, ran longer than the credits themselves so
it got the old chop-chop.

However, I would think that what happened to me yesterday really takes the cake
-- and this happened _not_ with one of GSN's shows, but with one of the
first-run syndie shows:

I went to tape Tuesday's Squares 2K2 episode, the one where the first five-time
champion of the new season is crowned, and just before the second segment is
supposed to start, the local CBS affiliate is forced to interrupt the show in
order to allow for a boring "CBS News Special Report" about this so-called
Sniper situation (for anyone else on here who saw that, this was where you'd
hear what's-his-name tell us "our children are not safe anytime, anywhere") to
air, and the report does not end until just a few seconds into the second ad
break, thus making Hampton Roads viewers miss the entire second segment!

NOTE TO CBS: If I've told you *ONCE*, I've told you an *OCTILLION TIMES*! If
news breaks during my game show, THROW IT AWAY! DO *NOT* REPORT IT! I don't
care and I don't *WANT* to care if breaking news is more important or needs to
be considered more important; first of all, if it's boring, I *DON'T* *WANT*
*TO* *SEE* *IT!!* and second, you've got it *BACKWARDS!* Watching a game show
(and in this case, trying to add said show to a tape collection) *IS* more
important than watching breaking news unfold! WHY? Because watching a game
show is *BETTER* than watching breaking news unfold! *Especially* when you're
trying to tape said game show also, and something very unusual's bound to
happen that day that'll make you want to remember the *GAME SHOW* and *NOT* any
breaking news event that might be taking place at that time (as was the case
with the aforementioned Squares 2K2 show where the champ was going for her
fifth win and would become the first *undefeated* champ of the new season if
successful, which she *WAS*, DARN IT)! Not to mention the fact that *this*
tape collector does *not* believe that game show episodes that get interrupted
for news bulletins are worthy of saving, and I *could* have been taping that
for *another* tape collector who feels the same way and lives in a market
that's *not* getting Squares this season, as part of a trade with said
collector! When a game show is interrupted for a special report, that is *NOT*
"keeping the public informed"; that is "keeping the public informed while
discouraging tape collectors in the process"!!

In short, next time news breaks while I'm trying to watch and/or tape one of my
game shows, either make it wait for the *REGULAR* news or throw it away *ON THE
SPOT*! You *WILL* do one of those things OR ELSE! GSN *ALWAYS* keeps *THEIR*
game shows on (interrupting *only* during the final segment to get that extra
promo in while the credits are rolling (although *they* *STILL* need to stop
doing so on at least the LMaD episodes))....WHY NOT *YOU?* And *another*
thing: contrary to what was said in the special report *this* time, *YES*,
"our children *ARE* safe anytime, anywhere!"

You know, I was ready to agree that Special Reports such as that one are
a waste of time. Then I read on to find:

I'm going to share a story with you.

I was watching Weakest Link yesterday. The channel mysteriously went
black halfway through the third round. I spent about a minute flipping
the channel back and forth, and muttering under my breath vaguely at "the
cable people", since I didn't know whether it was the fault of my cable
system or of the network itself.

Then I saw it wasn't going to come back on. So I turned off the TV and
did something else. Today, I have managed to relate that story without
emphasizing a single word in my post, much less 53 of them.

(And before you tell me that I was merely watching the show and not
taping it, I've been keeping track of WL statistics this season.)

I don't know what got into Ted with this post. He doesn't seem to me to be the
type who'd complain in here when a game show is preempted for an important news
bulletin. Granted we wish the events of the past couple of weeks didn't have to
happen, but.

No, this is the same person who has made the same empty bullshit threats of
GSN when they do something he doesn't like ("they had BETTER do what I

Of course, I also believe we have more than enough tangible evidence to
conclude this guy is a fucking chucklehead in most things related this group

One other question: Just how much of the 'breaking news' is actually news?
I remember about a year ago when the invasion of Afghanistan began, the US
soccer team were playing a World Cup qualifier that was supposed to air on
ABC. However, ABC preempted the entire afternoon's worth of TV coverage -
- something like 5-1/2 hours -- in order to cover the 'breaking' news.
For the most part, it was the same 10-15 minutes of 'news' over and over,
with the same guests ad nauseum. CBS and Fox had NFL games, and decided
that NFL ratings were more important than 'news' coverage, and only gave
us updates during halftime/between games.

OT: Frankly, I don't care about any news coverage that mentions the word
'children'. Every time I hear a story that begins something like "Fire
kills 10, two of them children", I ask myself, "would it be OK if only
adults died?"

Or *any* TV station or network, for that matter.

And as much as there is a legitimate argument over how TV news is
handling (or mishandling) this whole sniper situation in D.C. (and
whether it deserves more coverage than, say, Iraq or the election
campaign), if I were a program manager and received the E-mail from
CBS saying that they have a news bulletin on the sniper about to go
down the line, and if I had "H2" or any other game show on the air at
the time, it would be a no-brainer--break in with the bulletin. The
champ's run will be in the repeats and could be on GSN a few years
from now. Even if the bulletin turns out to be things we've already
heard before, I wouldn't want to make the mistake of *not* carrying it
when there is *real* and *important* news, because you never know.

Okay, this is just ridiculous. Considering we are both from the
Hampton Roads area, I would hope you would show some concern about
this sniper situation, since we are only a couple of hours from where
it's happening. Matter of fact, Richmond is only an hour and a half
from Norfolk, an hour if I drive :-). I would like to think that you
are at least somewhat concerned about the possibility of attacks
hitting the Norfolk area (of course, God forbid). I don't like
Special Report interruptions either, but life does go on. I have
family outside of DC, and go to school with friends from the DC/MD
area. I can truly say I am more on edge than I was post-9/11.
Besides, you ever heard of reruns?

Or what? What will you really do if one of your game shows is
interrupted for another Special Report? Are you going to go to WTKR
personally and hold the station hostage? I interned at the station
over the summer, and I can tell you that you wouldn't make it past the
security desk, let alone through the front door.

And if *I* were a program manager in the same position, for *me* it would be
just the opposite -- keep going with the game show and *tape* the bulletin and
air it *after* the show! Better yet, while those so-called "Time Machines" are

And you'd promptly lose viewers as people who -- unlike you -- give a
shit about what goes on outside the game show world would switch to a
station that *was* carrying the story.
