"our"??

Her tone reminds me of this classic:

"We shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on
the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in
the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall
never surrender."

Someone is clearly losing perspective here and it ain't Churchill.

> Barbarella: with mobilization

Is she talking about a war campaign or something? Iraq? Afghanistan
maybe?

> Barbarella: I want to see some real effort as much as pressure as we can

Why should any of us concern ourselves with what this woman wants to
see?

> possibly put and still remain nice, no insults, be intelligent about,
> and absolutely NO TALK OF BOYCOTTS

Is that an order? My, aren't we all high and mighty.

Personally, I will continue to talk of boycotts, as I don't watch
anything else on the SciFi channel besides Farscape. Once that is gone
I will be effectively boycotting them.

Indeed, I am already boycotting them until January.

I see nothing wrong with sending a message to the SciFi folks that they
will permanently lose viewers over this. That message hits them in the
pocketbook, which is their main concern.

> Barbarella: I mean this no talk of anything detrimental to their
> business..we don't operate like that

Who is this "we"? Who is she to tell people how to "operate"?

Again, I think the SciFi folks should be made aware that their decision
to cancel Farscape will hurt their bottom line.

However, it appears that the matter is closed as "Barb" has spoken.

> Barbarella: we are going to intelligently win this campaign just as we

Do you think she means "winning" or "whining"?

You mean this is worse than what those Trekkies and Star Wars geeks have
done? We're all going to look like idiots then.

"Baka Baka" as Ruri would say.

More war analogies. If I were a SciFi exec I'd be more than a little
put off and perhaps even somewhat frightened by this woman's belligerent
attitude.

Who is she to tell us what to call things? She needs to be reminded
that she's not the boss here.

I'll call it a protest if I damn well choose to. Hell, she just did.

More war talk.

Was it really necessary to string us along on the irc for over an hour
for this momentous pronouncement?

> Barbarella: I expect you guys to keep up the fight

More war-like talk. She should write Dubya's UN speech for tomorrow.
However, I doubt she has the faintest clue that he's even giving it.

She's trying to save the show and actually putting a lot of work into

few things on account of how little sleep this woman must've had in

As a matter of fact, we do, to continue using the #farscape chat room
on the SCI FI channel's servers. They could just shut it down and
keep it shut down, or continue the booting off nonsense they had been
doing the past couple of days just to harrass people into leaving.

You haven't spent any time in #farscape, have you? Barbarella is the
rock of sanity around which the eddies of lunacy in there swirl.

Don't be disingenous, Allan, it doesn't become you. This ~is~ a
campaign, and the fans ~are~ mobilized. If you dislike the
terminology, too bad.

Yes, because she is working for Henson and the production crew
directly. Her contact at Henson Co. is Brian. She got the called
from Kemper. She is their voice among us. (See my reply in your

No, this not worse, and this is entirely different. This fan effort
is actually taking place at a point where it can have an effect. Last
Friday's scoop put SCI FI on the defensive and all the media pressure
on them has only weakened their position further.

SCI FI doesn't care what one fan (Barbarella) has to say, they care
about all the letters, telegrams, faxes, and emails they are getting,
and all the negative media coverage, as well.

Not to be repetitive... but she IS the boss here.

Because most of the folks in #farscape behave like kindergardeners.

Why does the word "campaign" automatically translate into "war" for
you? There are political campaigns, advertising campaigns, all sorts
of campaigns. Political campaigns especially use the terminology such
as "mobilization", etc, because they are apt. As they are for this
particular campaign to sway the executives of a minor cable TV network
to change their minds.

As for Barb's social awareness -- I don't think it's at all fair for
you to judge her on a subject about which she has said nothing,
precisely because she has said nothing, which is completely in keeping
with her current position.

Nah, "We are legion" is from that old CCD class story about the demons who
entered into a bunch of pigs and jumped off a cliff. Grammar school nuns used
to scare the bejesus out of little kids like me with that one.

That server is not necessary. Indeed, given the way the SciFi folks
have been jerking it around the chat room probably should be moved.

Yes, I have. Far too much actually.

Yes, I do dislike the terminology and will continue to point it out as
unbecoming to those using it, particular given the current political
situation.

I didn't see anything approaching an answer. She is in no position to
tell people what to do. Neither, for that matter, is Kemper really.
Fortunately, unlike "Barb", he only gives advice, not orders.

I disagree. I think it is exactly the same.

So did the Trekkies campaigning, or hadn't you noticed how Star Trek got
revived into a franchise?

The only thing that SciFi is concerned about is money.

It doesn't except when the rest of the language a person is using fits
that militaristic pattern.

Besides, she said "Keep up the fight."

That's NOT what I'm trying to do. People who attack me instead of
responding to what I'm saying are involved in ad hominem logical
fallacies.

That includes you, but then you're famous for your personal attacks.

I also think that all this venom flowing my way for not conforming to
orthodoxy may very well be proof positive that this effort is not a
healthy thing.

The could be French Cavalry and Crossbowmen, slain by
the thousands by Welsh and other Longbowmen after a
brief rain at the battle of Crecy...

Ahem...

They could be, and thus not alive now to attack him.

I think people would be more inclined to take you seriously if you
ignored those who attack you, instead of attacking them back (which just
gives them more ammunition to use against you).

Let's see... From the 6th cent. until the time of Longshanks Wales was
its own nation with its own language & culture. It was not fully

Funny you should say that...

The French ghad the English routed... the English were running
for the boats to go home. the French are pursued them doggedly.

English longbowmen stayed behind to cover the retreat

There was a short rainstorm

The bowstrings of the English longbows, and French crossbows
got wet. A bowman is trained almost from birth, usually he's
the son of a bowman and so on... A crossbowman is a grunt who
can load and fire his weapon. The English changed out their
bowstrings for new ones and with the French cavalry facing
a field of mud, the English were the only people left in the
fight with a weapon.

Just say that we push Sci-Fi with letters, some great publicity
and polished professionalism, politeness, organization and tech
savvy. We really wow them, and they reopen negotioations.

Then people lose focus, get sloppy, make threats, threaten
Sci-fi. Talk about staying up all night in chatrooms, put
Farscape before sleep, or your job, and you quickly become
a Wacko, and Farscape is just a "Cult show". A few fanatics
ruin the image of being desireable viewers that the rest of
us tried to create and SFC says that the ratings/revenue of
cult shows are never profitable, and shuts it all down...

Just how desireable are jobless, loser wackos as a demographic?

Again.

They'll replace it with some mainstream crap...

I think they'll call it...

"Friends in Space"

So yes, you lose focus, you lose your priorities you lose
your objectivity and soon you lose your objective.

I don't think Allan said anything in a way that people
wanted to hear it, but the point I think he was getting
at can be dismissed so easily.

I think his statements coming off as personal attacks on
Barb colored a lot of people against what he was saying.

It was one of my greatest fears in the '90s as the Berlin
wall fell, Russia came apart, and individual countries in
the former bloc nations started to reclaim their old names
It seemed to me except for some alliances that the whole
of Europe had just realigned itself to its pre-WWI status
and the Serbs were fighting again.

We've got a new version of the M4 carbine that fires 7.62x39mm
so that special forces cave fighting the Al Quaeda/Bin Laden
folks could reload off the 7.62 Soviet all over Afghanistan
when they couldn't find our 5.56 conveniently. Its called
the SR-47 but I can't find a convenient link to a page
for you. Obviously ammo supplies and logistics of
getting them become even more important in the

And, IIRC, that was marginally before the County Palatine of Durham became a
full part of England.

Note to self: find out what the relevent piece of legislation was and lobby
for it to be repealed under the guise of local democracy. WHAT WESTMINSTER
