Okay, here's the list of unfinished stories. I'll repost them each week
to allow for newsreader timing out.

This is a slightly strange category -- almost none of the stories are
actually on the archive. They're the ones that either got a part of two
posted to the newsgroup, and then didn't continue, or are ongoing
stories (as of the 24th February 2000).

Everyone, have at it!

a) reply to this posting on the newsgroup and say all you want about any
story you've read -- just avoid outright flames

b) as long as you've discussed a story on the group, you can e-mail me
directly (at atd...@altavista.com) to rate it from 1 to 10. These
ratings will be added to determine the honourable mention awards for the
unfinished category.

Any mistakes in the list, please let me know.

I guess I'll stick a toe into the water, and start off by saying
a few words about Sasscat's "Alternate Thinking." I feel like
I've been reading this story forever, (how long have you been
working on it, Sass?) and I am always pleased to see a new
chapter posted on the newsgroup.

It's been a wild rollercoaster of weirdness, Sass. You've been
very inventive in your variations on a theme--I was especially
impressed by Meg's fall into the tree when the apartment
building disappeared.

One thing that has always made me somewhat reluctant to get
involved in unfinished stories is that I can never tell where I
am in the overall structure of the tale. While I'm reading a
book, I know whether I'm at the beginning, near the middle, or
approaching the end. When I watch a tv show or a movie, I know
(by the passage of time) approximately "where" in the story I
am. But when I read an unfinished story like "Alternate
Thinking," I sometimes feel a little lost. It doesn't detract
from the enjoyment of the moment, but when I reach the end of a
chapter and all I know is that it's "to be continued," I do
wonder where I am in the overall picture.

Does anybody else experience this with stories that are being
posted as they are written? I'm not complaining exactly, just
musing. Lord knows I'm neurotic about maps; when I travel I
always want to know exactly where I am! If I'm the only one who
feels confused and a little disoriented, perhaps I can bribe
Sasscat into whispering a hint or two in my ear.

In any case, don't keep us waiting forever, Sasscat!

Melanie M, keeper of Frannie's water pistol (squirt, squirt) and
of the explanation, including this one from "Mountie and Soul":

(RayRayRayRay to Franco Devlin)

"He first came to Chicago on the killers of his father. He's
Canadian, you don't want to know."
