No, i'm not yanking your chain. But I never have forgotten how you wasted
your time trying to discredit me several years ago when I told you that Soap
Opera Digest talked to me and that a studio intern contacted me. I can't
remember exactly what it was about, but Soap Opera Digest, I believe,
contacted me to see if an April Fools joke I made on the group was real. The
intern just told me that my comments were being "monitored" by the staff at
Days of Our Lives and that they were aware of who I was.
As I recall, you did nothing but try and debunk that. And you know Bonbon,
what strikes me as odd is that you would go through all that trouble after
knowing that my work and my comments and observations on a variety of
subjects had been quoted in a variety of magazines. I remember summer of
2000, no, it was late, late September into early October...I did an
interview with Associated Press about the first season of Big Brother on
CBS. Google it and see if you can find it. They did quote me, but not nearly
as much as what I gave them to use.
I've also been interviewed by York Membrey of The London Sunday Times about
the 007 phenom, as well as been interviewed by Cigar Lifestyle magazine,
Entertainment Weekly (Thanksgiving 1999 edition), Yahoo Internet Life
(twice, Summer 1999, Summer 2000), The New York Times, and those are the
ones I can remember off the top of my head. Go over to Darhorizons.com, do a
search for information on Strangers With Candy, and you'll see some recent
EXCLUSIVE information I sent to Garth about the casting for both Strangers
With Candy and Bewitched (Amy Sedaris aka Jerri Blank on Strangers With
Candy, was cast as Gladys Kravitz; nobody knew that at the time but me).
Blah blah blah. Yeah, but you asked for it.
As I was saying, I hear PLENTY about what goes on backstage at this
miserable little show.

Well, i'll give you this open secret about Kyle Lowder (Brady): he's gay.
Gay as a Christmas goose and for some reason NBC has a problem with that. So
they put on their 1954 Doris Day/Rock Hudson mentality and arranged for him
to marry Arianna Zucker (Nicole). Frankly, the whole situation makes me
sick. It makes me sick that Kyle Lowder would allow other people, especially
fellow Hollywood types who are supposedly more liberal and tolerant, to
arrange a marriage for him just so he can hide his sexuality. And from whom?
The show has a miniscule audience, comprised almost entirely of women aged
18-35, who are a lot more forgiving than NBC gives them credit for. It's not
as if the show is watched exclusively by members of The 700 Club. Arianna
Zucker sickens me for exploiting this situation all in the name of extra job
security (she was about to get axed from the show when they made the offer
for her to marry Lowder), and NBC sickens me for understimating their
audience, and for not standing by this kid in the first place.
Kind of reminds me of the situation with James Van Der Beek. Yeah, granted,
technically maybe James Van Der Beek shouldn't have been having sex with
John Wesley Shipp since Shipp played his father on Dawson's Creek, but they
did it, kind of discretely, but that wasn't enough for the WB. They fired
Shipp and lo and behold! Van Der Beek starts publicly dating someone whom
the studio arranged for him (weirdly enough, the studios still investigate
and invest in men, and women for their gay and lesbian stars to be seen
with; I guess they figured millions of teenage girls would leave Dawson's
Creek if they found out Shipp and Beek were sleeping together. Yeah, I kind
of see that dilemna). What's really funny was seeing Kerr Smith beaming with
joy standing next to his fiance, while Beek looked extremely uncomfortable
with his fiance when they all attended some party and took a photo op.
I will say this: I've heard no dirt on Drake Hogestyn. He's as boring as
driftwood.

the divorce from Benet, the statement that she won't marry again that she

Boy, you really got it going on, Ice. I was *almost* in Glamour, but then
they recinded. It was *too* hilarious, honestly. They told me that my
opinions were "too strong but very well versed", so they were afraid and had
to back out, after writing me a letter saying which issue I was to be in.
(Those silly Feminazis them! I could've edited the piece but they were just
too timid...Oh, well...I guess I'm a woman of too much brawn I wasn't prissy
enough for them?)
I've been published in the Seattle Weekly a few times, though. Most of the
time when I've read SODigest, I've thought "This person sucks... I can do
better than that." Same with People. OMG...the idiots who write the movie
reviews in People are so lame compared to David Denby and Terrence Rafferty
over at the New Yorker. :o)

Very very old news. But, I would point out that no one really knows for sure
if it was NBC or if it was Lowder's own people that pushed him to go for the
double beard arrangement. He was very unhappy about it, before & immediately
after. Likely it was NBC and his people together. His people think he has a
huge future which will go far beyond soaps, but would not if he kept edging

See above. Soap fans still send in hate mail on gay storylines just as they
still send in hate mail with interracial storylines *but* it's much less so

Why shouldn't they have been having an affair? Technically? There was no
reason. It was their business. However, The WB tired of it & the rumors of
it & thought they'd solve the 'problem' by firing Shipp. Since they assumed,
of course, that he would leave North Carolina. The joke was on them when he
stayed on, living with JVDB, instead of having his own digs! Served them
right. Later on, though, JVDB married someone quick like.

sexuality and suddenly her job isn't on the line anymore. You do the math.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. After all, that's what
Clinton's been saying lately. It's never a good idea for people who work
together to have sex together, gay or straight. What made this worse than
being a simple gay affair between, say, Van Der Beek and a cameraman or
stage hand or craft service table attendant, was that Beek was having sex
with his on-screen dad AND the guy is twice as old as Beek. It looked
horrible. Absolutely horrible. And in the interest of being fair and
balanced, I said the same thing about Clinton and Lewinsky. There's a reason
why society, throughout the centuries, has put a stigma on these behaviors:
they serve a protection. Van Der Beek and Shipp went off and did something
stupid and as a result Shipp got fired. Incidentally, Shipp was outed back
in 1990 or 1991. I remember watching The Flash (a fairly decent version on
CBS) and the tabloids ran pictures of him walking his dogs with his
boyfriend, hand in hand.

I forgot about that. And yes, JVDB did marry someone quick, but the marriage
couldn't have been any more arranged unless Van Der Beek was from India. The
whole thing was staged from start to finish and i'm not sure why because it
happened at the tail end of Dawson's run on television and Van Der Beek is
not an A-list feature film actor right now. He has no career to jeapordize.

Agreed. If he wants to do musical theatre, first on Broadway & then in
movies, he needs to get his butt to New York City. If you want more, if you
have a long plan, you make enough of a name & a nest egg off the first 3
year contract on a soap to move as soon as it's over, staying friendly just
in case, of course, but you move on.

We've had firsts. We need about a dozen people to come out together, the
higher profile the better, and there's never been a better time than now.

I don't think there's any question that it was an arranged marriage. I just
think it's a double bearded situation where they both gain & their people
are assuaged & the show is, too.

That's absurd. To many people who knew about it, it looked positively yummy!
By all accounts they had a very good relationship that lasted most of the
show's term, IOW, years. Fortunately, you don't find gay people getting
nearly as distracted by unimportant external factors like age differences as
do some people. Totally superficial way of looking at their relationship!

resemblance to the real relationship between JDVB & JWS. However, there was
a huge power differential in that non-relationship, him over her, until you

seduce. He apparently is easy to seduce & was possibly constantly on the

I don't really consider tabloid outings to be outings. If you don't let them
bother you, they're just so much ink. They print just as much false as they
do true. The people who protest so much are the ones who draw attention to

In any event, I remember a time when I didn't know what a "bottom" or a
"top" was. Before getting on the Internet and meeting up with you good
folks, i'd never heard the term "beard" before. Or "gay for pay".
Why doesn't conservative straights have lingo? It seems to me that every
culture other than straight, white, conservatives have a lingo. And black
people have more lingo than anyone. I've learned new phrases like: "on the
down low" and "bling". Isn't the Internet wonderful? It brings us all
together.
Incidentally, you claim that Zucker and Lowder are "bearding for each
other". So you're saying Zucker is a lesbian? I guess it's possible. Has
Portia De Rossi officially come out? She's been shown lately in many
magazines kissing her girlfriend and I haven't heard anyone get upset about
it or FOX fire her from Arrested Development (granted, she's a lipstick
lesbian, and that's okay with white, heterosexual male America).
Now that Ricky Williams has "retired" from the Dolphins, all kinds of
rumors, well, basically just one, have been coming out of the woodwork. The
rumors are very specific and coming from multiple sources. And get this: I
first heard about the rumors listening to Sports Talk on radio 790 The Zone.

I remember a time when I didn't know any of those terms. I would hope anyone
would. And, frankly, I don't hear 'gay for pay' although I do hear other
terms that mean that, which to me, are more 'lingo'.

They got married. Lipstick lesbian is only okay with parts of American
culture, just as only parts of American culture buy into rigid stereotypes
like lipstick lesbians.
