From Tv Guide on line:

And here I thought I was the only one left who was obsessed with Dark
Shadows. But no, apparently Johnny Depp is, too. According to Variety,
the erstwhile Cap'n Jack grew up wishing he was the '60s soap's
anti-hero, vampire Barnabas Collins — and still does. So now that he's
a big movie star and not a starry-eyed kid, he's making it happen,
developing a big-screen version of the daytime drama. Oh, please,
please, please, can we get Angelina Jolie to play Angelique the
Witch?! Those lips, those eyes! She's perfect!

I really think Depp would be a beter Quentin.

Heck, I'd break the budget-

Roger- Michael Douglas or Dustin Hoffman
Elizabeth- Glen Close or Jaclyn Smith
Barnabas- Clooney or Cruise
I don't care for Joline
others later....

Michael Douglas would be a good choice for Roger, but when I picture Dustin
Hoffman, I hear him squeaking, "Cassandra, you're trying to seduce me." And
would the cannery pack the fish in plastic?

As for Tom Cruise as Barnabas, I still haven't gotten over his attempt to
play Lestat.

LOL! Actually, I have to admit that I didn't find him as awful as I
thought he would be, but I thought he and Brad Pitt would have been
better suited in each other's roles.

But then, I must get up on my soapbox again and say that Sting would
have absolutely been the perfect, ultimate Lestat...

Hello there, I am one of the original 60s fans. I hope that
Johnny Depp can summon up some gravitas. Also, I do think that
Scarlett Johannsen would be fine as Angelique.

YES! I always thought Sting would be perfect as Lestat. My second choice
would have been David Bowie.

On the other hand, they used the Dustin Hoffman old age make-up from
Little Big Man for the ancient Barnabas in HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS, so
maybe Dustin Hoffman should just play old Barnabas, now, without any
make up. :D

Sting just has that perfect combination of stunning good looks, the
cockiness and that underlying sense of dangerous seduction that just
seem the living (or unliving?) embodiment of Lestat. He definitely
showed that side in "Brimstone and Treacle" as well as "Grave
Indiscretion"/"Gentlemen Don't Eat Poets" (theatrical and video titles
of the same film)

And of oourse, as a bonus, his song "Moon Over Bourbon Street" (which
was inspired by "Interview") would be a perfect addition to the
soundtrack!

I hadn't thought very much about it until reading this thread, but it
does offer some entertaining theorizing.

Willie Loomis just has to be over the top. Can't have a calm,
rational Loomis, or even a stable one, so may I suggest Crispin
Glover? I don't know if he's working these days, or even alive, for
that matter. I know he was considered "barely employable" in the mid
80s due to his bizarre behavior on the set. Of course, these days
that pretty much just makes him one of the celeb crowd.

Some of the suggestions that went by struck me as close to perfect.
Michael Caine as Roger Collins? Hell yeah. And Robert Downey, Jr. as
Jason would be inspired. But my favorite idea previously suggested is
Alan Rickman as Barnabus Collins.

I haven't heard many details. Is it a remake of House of Dark
Shadows, or are they taking a story from the series? Or making up
their own?

Yes, I agree... it should be Abe Vigoda. He would be perfect!
Although how old is he now?

You're kidding; right? Right?
Jerry Lacey is still around and is now actually the right age for the part;
and if he's not available, this would be a great opportunity to work in the

I know i am coming into this thread a bit late- but here goes.
Now- i hope you dont laugh at me.. but i think Adrienne Barbeau would
be a great Liz.
Something about her attitude would be just right i think. Plus her
semi-recent stint on "Carnivale" shows she can still act with the best
of them.
Too old maybe?
Hmm.. i am thinking perhaps not. I just could see her easily fitting
into that role.

Love the idea of Joan Allen as Hoffman.
I am thinking Rebecca Romijn for Angelique maybe?
Anyone seen DePalma's "Femme Fatale"? She was soooooo great at that
type of role.

Hey, Monkey!
I didn't get to see her in "Carnivale." AB could be a choice, but it really
depends on how old Barbeau *looks.*

Liz Collins is late forties, early to mid-fifties, tops. Hell, if I had any
kind of acting ability, I could play her!

I'm assuming Liz had Carolyn while in her early twenties. If someone as old
as Liz Taylor played her, that would mean Liz Collins would have been well
into menopause when Carolyn was born! But I suppose stranger things than
that have happened at Collinwood, doncha know! ;-)

Hmm...this is becoming a really interesting exercise.

Well.. she looks pretty good, though she does look her age which i
would guess around late 50's to 60's-ish. So maybe too old for Liz.
For some reason, i could just picture her swilling some brandy and
telling Roger to get over himself LOL.
But also.. that said i dont think Meryl Streep is much older than AB-
if at all.
