It's hard to remember now, but back in the day, tobacco advertising was
everywhere. On TV, radio and in print—you couldn't turn anywhere to
escape the "cool" factor. Believe it or not, Doctor Who's most famous
baddie actually smoked it up at one point. Exterminate! ... right after
this cigar.

A never-aired ad for Hamlet cigars has surfaced online, starring a Dalek
who gets stuck when he runs into some stairs. Luckily, he has a Hamlet
mild cigar to calm his nerves and take a break. Heck, he even uses his
death ray to light it up.

It's hard to pinpoint when the ad was created, as the Hamlet ad campaign
was popular from the 1970s to the 1980s (as was Doctor Who).

Regardless, it's still an insane bit of pop culture to remind us the
world wasn't always so politically correct.

Transgression is the new political correctness.

Figure that one out...

In addition to Biden's well-documented history of being a moron?

I remember a cinema ad with a robot resembling C3PO (but just
different enough to avoid legal action) on an assembly line lighting
up a Hamlet after his head is put on backwards.

Judging from <http://www.thedoctorwhosite.co.uk/dalek/types/>, the
silver balls suggests 1988.

I always loved those ads, even if they didn't air in France (saw a few of
them on TV, in a TV show about advertising). And that one is great. Thanks
for sharing it.
